Stephen F. Austin was born in 1793 in Virginia and studied at Transylvania University and Bacon Academy. He arranged land claims with Mexico and worked to establish Texas independence from Mexico. Austin took a letter to Santa Anna advocating for Texas' right to self-governance. Known as the "Father of Texas", Austin played a pivotal role in Texas history before dying of illness in 1836.

Stephen Fuller Austin was known as the "Father of Texas" and led the second successful colonization of the region by American settlers. Lorenzo de Zavala was a Mexican statesman who fought for Mexican independence from Spain. He held several political positions in Mexico but opposed President Santa Anna's authoritarian rule. De Zavala moved his family to Texas where he supported federalism and signed the Texas Declaration of Independence. He was elected vice president of the Republic of Texas but resigned in 1836 and died shortly after.
George Childress was a lawyer from Tennessee who authored the Texas Declaration of Independence. He traveled to Texas to support the Texas Revolution and was elected to represent Milam Municipality at the Convention of 1836. As chairman of the committee to draft the declaration, he is widely acknowledged as the primary author. Childress struggled to establish
The Austins Come to Texas
Stephen F. Austin goes to Mexico City in 1822 to convince the Mexican government to approve his plans to settle Texas, as his father Moses Austin had originally planned. In 1823, the Mexican government passes a law granting Austin's requests, but it is later canceled after a change in government. Austin presses his case with new officials and receives approval to organize his colony, including the ability to form a local government and militia. He returns to Texas in 1823 to begin settlement.

The Consultation of 1835 was a meeting called by William H. Wharton to discuss Texas' future within Mexico. Delegates at the Consultation debated between declaring immediate independence from Mexico or remaining loyal in hopes Mexico would restore the Constitution of 1824. The Consultation ultimately created a provisional government and chose commissioners to travel to the United States while pledging loyalty to Mexico and warning of independence if reforms were not made. Sam Houston was named commander-in-chief of the Texas regular army.

- 2. Austin was born at the leading mines in Southwestern Virginia on November 3, 1793.
- 3. Austin arranged land claims with the Mexican Government. He was a fierce fighter for Texas Independence Austin was brave enough to take a letter to Santa Anna stating to let Texas have it’s own government. He is best known for the Founding fathers of Texas.
- 4. Austin studied at Transylvania University in Kentucky and also Bacon Academy in Connecticut.

- 6. Austin did a lot of jobs throughout his life: He worked at: leading mines, general store, Member of Missouri Territorial Legislature, Judge, Lawyer, and Fierce Fighter for Texas Independence
- 7. Austin died with a disease on December 27, 1836. People know remember Austin as the “FATHER OF TEXAS”
- 8. 1. He attended Bacon Academy at the age of 11 years. 2. In 1813, at the age of twenty-one years, he was elected to the territorial Legislature of Missouri, and was reelected to that position each year until 1819. 3. The elder Austin died soon after returning to Missouri from a trip to Texas, but bequeathed his grant to Stephen with instructions to carry it to a successful completion
