Specific
Goal should state precisely what is to be
accomplished.
Measurable
Goal progress should be visible and able to be
tracked.
Achievable
Goal should be reachable based on resources,
capabilities, and personal abilities.
Relevant
Goal should align with other goals and should
matter.
Timely
Goal should have a specific completion date.
Not SMART
● Lose weight and work out more.
SMART
● Lose 10 pounds by working out for 1
hour in the gym 3 times per week
over the course of the next 3 months.

rewards.
By consciously integrating the right cues,
following specific routines – in order to get
a specific reward – the process will
become automatic.
5. Create a Habit to Have a Weekly
Routine to Measure Progress
Cue: What day and time will you have your weekly review? Wednesday morning before
breakfast
Routine: 3 SMART tasks you did and plan on doing that line up to your semester goal.
Reward: What reward will you receive if you complete the weekly review? Get to play
video games that evening for 1 hour.
Consequence: What consequence will occur if you don’t complete your weekly review?
Can’t watch football on Sunday.
