What is Steampunk? Steampunk refers to technology looking and acting as technology in steam-era.  Or have that look of being from the 19 th  century. Usually fantastic technology or realistic technology, re-made to look like it was built at a far earlier date.
What is SteamPunk – Part II Steampunk also can take an alternate history route.  Using things like, what if technology had taken a turn at x instead of y.  Or if people had focused on vehicles instead of having the invention of computers.
Is it Like CyberPunk? Fans of cyberpunk usually are also fans of steampunk. Steampunk shares the same themes of rebellion. Aside from differences in time and technology, steampunk usually does not take place in a grungy atmosphere.
Origin Of SteamPunk? SteamPunk originated off of cyberpunk. First stories were written in cyberpunk style, but used old technology and set in the past.  So it became coined as “steampunk.” Although, steampunk has several different themes, other than your typical cyberpunk type of rebellion.
Let's Stereotype SteamPunk Usually set in the victorian era (19 th  century) ‏ Includes technology we use modernly, except as if it were built in the 19 th  century. Contains themes of rebellion as typical “punk”. Utopian scene/locations.
Any Famous Stories? The Difference Engine  – By William Gibson and Bruce Sterling (1990) ‏ The League Of Extraordinary Comic – Alan Moore and Kevin O-Neil (1999) ‏ Steampunk – This is an anthology of several steampunk stories.  (2008) ‏
People and Steampunk Yes people do role-play and modify technology to be more steampunk.
