The document summarizes the current state of GIS within the County of Hawaii government. It outlines that 21 county departments currently use GIS data, though only 5 have designated GIS positions. It then lists over 30 types of geospatial data that are shared between departments and with the public through various online portals. The vision outlined is to create an enterprise GIS system with a unified platform to efficiently share and disseminate standardized data both internally and with the public through web and mobile applications and ArcGIS Online. This would improve the county's use of spatial data across departments.

This document discusses Adams County's implementation of the Agterra MapItFast and Strider mobile apps to replace their paper-based weed management records. The apps allow staff to easily collect data offline and share it with other government entities. After an initial installation and customization period, staff tested the apps and provided feedback. While the first year revealed areas for improvement like unnecessary fields and form redesign, enhancements in the second year addressed these issues and added new capabilities like invoicing and geotagged photos. Ongoing communication, support, and a learning curve are needed for successful ongoing use of the new digital solution.

Evaluating the State of Mobility Management and Human Service Transportation ...UGPTI
In this presentation, SURTC researcher Jeremy Mattson described a project that developed and tested a method for evaluating efforts within a community to build transportation coordination infrastructure and improve community livability. For this study, two surveys were developed and conducted at multiple sites across the country. An end-user survey was distributed to transit users, and a stakeholder survey was sent to transportation providers, human service agencies, and other organizations. The results can be used to assess the effectiveness of mobility management and coordination programs in meeting the needs of transportation-disadvantaged populations and achieving the goals of improved efficiency, ease of access, and quality of service.

Gravel Roads - The Economic Backbone of the StateUGPTI
Gravel roads are an economic backbone in North Dakota, making up over 97,000 miles or 59% of the state's road network. Proper gravel specifications and testing are key to ensuring durability and reducing long-term maintenance costs. A study in South Dakota found that gravel meeting modified specifications with higher plasticity indexes and finer particles reduced loose material on the road by up to half compared to substandard gravel, and eliminated corrugation issues. Maintaining gravel roads requires an investment of hundreds of millions of dollars over the next decade to address needs. Together through sharing knowledge, the condition of gravel roads can be improved to support agriculture and energy industries.

Gravel Roads - Sargent County Township MeetingUGPTI
The Gravel Roads presentation helps local leaders understand aspects of gravel roads. A review of roadway shape, aggregate gradation, clay binder, roadway problems/solutions provides a solid foundation of knowledge for anyone wanting to understand how to improve gravel roadways. Clay binder is a focal point for the technology transfer. To insure that a quality gravel is purchased, a gravel needs to be specified and tested for gradation and PI. PI, plasticity index, is the engineering property that defines the amount of clay in the fine portion of the gravel material. Clay is the binder that holds gravel rock and fines together, much like cement in concrete. Gravel produced without clay will result in roadway sections that yield excessive dust, wash-boarding and float; items that result in increased life cycle costs and reduced safety levels. Contact NDLTAP if your group can benefit from quality gravel roads. NDLTAP is offering the presentation to local leaders across the state.

THE SACRIFICE HOW PRO-PALESTINE PROTESTS STUDENTS ARE SACRIFICING TO CHANGE T...indexPub
The recent surge in pro-Palestine student activism has prompted significant responses from universities, ranging from negotiations and divestment commitments to increased transparency about investments in companies supporting the war on Gaza. This activism has led to the cessation of student encampments but also highlighted the substantial sacrifices made by students, including academic disruptions and personal risks. The primary drivers of these protests are poor university administration, lack of transparency, and inadequate communication between officials and students. This study examines the profound emotional, psychological, and professional impacts on students engaged in pro-Palestine protests, focusing on Generation Z's (Gen-Z) activism dynamics. This paper explores the significant sacrifices made by these students and even the professors supporting the pro-Palestine movement, with a focus on recent global movements. Through an in-depth analysis of printed and electronic media, the study examines the impacts of these sacrifices on the academic and personal lives of those involved. The paper highlights examples from various universities, demonstrating student activism's long-term and short-term effects, including disciplinary actions, social backlash, and career implications. The researchers also explore the broader implications of student sacrifices. The findings reveal that these sacrifices are driven by a profound commitment to justice and human rights, and are influenced by the increasing availability of information, peer interactions, and personal convictions. The study also discusses the broader implications of this activism, comparing it to historical precedents and assessing its potential to influence policy and public opinion. The emotional and psychological toll on student activists is significant, but their sense of purpose and community support mitigates some of these challenges. However, the researchers call for acknowledging the broader Impact of these sacrifices on the future global movement of FreePalestine.
