This document summarizes a sermon given by Pastor Alvin Gutierrez about standing strong in faith based on the biblical story of Daniel in the lion's den from Daniel 6:16-28. The sermon emphasizes three key points: 1) When God raises you up, expect people to oppose you; 2) Kneeling in prayer gives the strength to stand up to opposition; and 3) You can trust God with the results if you do what is right. The story of Daniel modeling these truths by remaining faithful to God even when threatened with death by lions.
In Daniel Chapter 6, we see the influence Daniel has built over a life time. His excellence, character and faithfulness led him to be an incredible witness of Yahweh, but even late in his life, he went through incredible and unexpected hardship. Today we consider how the challenges he experienced applies to our lives today.

What does the "Lord's Prayer" mean to you? Why do you think many people find “The Lord’s Prayer” offensive? Is this prayer offensive to you? Why is it “politically incorrect” in our country and offensive to many in the world to pray “in Jesus name”? If you were invited to lead in public prayer, and you were directed not to “pray in Jesus Name”, what would you do? Why?

In Jude 17-23 Jude shifts from piling up examples of false teachers from the Old Testament to a series of practical exhortations that flow from apostolic instruction. He preserves for us what may well have been part of the apostolic catechism for the first generation of Christ-followers. In these instructions Jude exhorts the believer to deal with 3 different groups of people: scoffers who are "devoid of the Spirit", believers who have come under the influence of scoffers and believers who are so entrenched in false teaching that they need rescue and pose some real spiritual risk for the rescuer. In all of this Jude emphasizes Jesus' call to rescue straying sheep, leaving the 99 safely behind and pursuing the 1.
Homily: The Solemnity of the Most Holy Trinity Sunday 2024.docxJames Knipper
Countless volumes have been written trying to explain the mystery of three persons in one true God, leaving us to resort to metaphors such as the three-leaf clover to try to comprehend the Divinity. Many of us grew up with the quintessential pyramidal Trinity structure of God at the top and Son and Spirit in opposite corners. But what if we looked at this ‘mystery’ from a different perspective? What if we shifted our language of God as a being towards the concept of God as love? What if we focused more on the relationship within the Trinity versus the persons of the Trinity? What if stopped looking at God as a noun…and instead considered God as a verb? Check it out…
The Book of Joshua is the sixth book in the Hebrew Bible and the Old Testament, and is the first book of the Deuteronomistic history, the story of Israel from the conquest of Canaan to the Babylonian exile.

5. Daniel 6:16-28
16 So the king gave the order, and they
brought Daniel and threw him into the
lions’ den. The king said to Daniel, “May
your God, whom you serve continually,
rescue you!” 17 A stone was brought and
placed over the mouth of the den, and the
king sealed it with his own signet ring and
with the rings of his nobles, so that
Daniel’s situation might not be changed.
6. Daniel 6:16-28
18 Then the king returned to his palace
and spent the night without eating and
without any entertainment being brought
to him. And he could not sleep. 19 At the
first light of dawn, the king got up and
hurried to the lions’ den. 20 When he came
near the den, he called to Daniel in an
anguished voice, “Daniel, servant of the
living God, has your God, whom you
7. Daniel 6:16-28
serve continually, been able to rescue you
from the lions?” 21 Daniel answered, “May
the king live forever! 22 My God sent his
angel, and he shut the mouths of the
lions. They have not hurt me, because I
was found innocent in his sight. Nor have
I ever done any wrong before you, Your
Majesty.”
8. Daniel 6:16-28
23 The king was overjoyed and gave
orders to lift Daniel out of the den. And
when Daniel was lifted from the den, no
wound was found on him, because he had
trusted in his God. 24 At the king’s
command, the men who had falsely
accused Daniel were brought in and
thrown into the lions’ den, along with their
wives and children.
9. Daniel 6:16-28
And before they reached the floor of the
den, the lions overpowered them and
crushed all their bones. 25 Then King
Darius wrote to all the nations and
peoples of every language in all the earth:
“May you prosper greatly! 26 “I issue a
decree that in every part of my kingdom
people must fear and reverence the God
of Daniel
10. Daniel 6:16-28
“For he is the living God and he endures
forever; his kingdom will not be destroyed,
his dominion will never end. 27 He rescues
and he saves; he performs signs and
wonders in the heavens and on the earth.
He has rescued Daniel from the power of
the lions.” 28 So Daniel prospered during
the reign of Darius and the reign of Cyrus
the Persian.
14. Daniel 6:1-3
It pleased Darius to appoint 120 satraps
to rule throughout the kingdom, 2 with
three administrators over them, one of
whom was Daniel. The satraps were
made accountable to them so that the
king might not suffer loss. 3 Now Daniel so
distinguished himself among the
administrators and the satraps by his
exceptional qualities that the king planned
to set him over the whole kingdom.
17. Daniel 6:4-5
4 At this, the administrators and the satraps
tried to find grounds for charges against
Daniel in his conduct of government affairs,
but they were unable to do so. They could
find no corruption in him, because he was
trustworthy and neither corrupt nor
negligent. 5 Finally these men said, “We will
never find any basis for charges against this
man Daniel unless it has something to do
with the law of his God.”
20. If you are not ready to be opposed
by men with your obedience to
God, you are not ready to be used
by God.
21. Romans 8:29-31
29 For those God foreknew he also
predestined to be conformed to the image of
his Son, that he might be the firstborn
among many brothers and sisters. 30 And
those he predestined, he also called; those
he called, he also justified; those he
justified, he also glorified. 31 What, then,
shall we say in response to these things? If
God is for us, who can be against us?
23. Daniel 6:10
10 Now when Daniel learned that the decree
had been published, he went home to his
upstairs room where the windows opened
toward Jerusalem. Three times a day he got
down on his knees and prayed, giving
thanks to his God, just as he had done
before.
24. Our first response to problems
should never be panic—
but always be prayer.
29. Daniel 6:22-23
22 My God sent his angel, and he shut the
mouths of the lions. They have not hurt me,
because I was found innocent in his sight.
Nor have I ever done any wrong before you,
Your Majesty.” 23 The king was overjoyed
and gave orders to lift Daniel out of the den.
And when Daniel was lifted from the den, no
wound was found on him, because he had
trusted in his God.
30. King Darius issued a decree that
everyone in the kingdom should
fear the God of Daniel.

35. 2 Corinthians 4:17
17 For our light and momentary troubles are
achieving for us an eternal glory that far
outweighs them all.
36. Revelation 21:4
“And God will wipe away every tear from
their eyes; there shall be no more death, nor
sorrow, nor crying. There shall be no more
pain, for the former things have passed
away.”
