Invest In God's Promises Genesis 22:20-23:20David Turner
After the death of Sarah, Abraham purchased a place to bury her in the land of promise. He invested in the land God had already promised to him. The lesson focuses on our following Abraham's example and investing in His promises. Free PowerPoint Download at www.BibleGuy.org
This chapter begins with a new revelation of God as El Shaddai to Abram, and continues with God changing Abram's name to Abraham and Sarai's name to Sarah. What relevance do these names have for us today? The chapter closes with God's decree that His Covenant to Abraham will be fulfilled through Isaac and not Ishmael. Understanding this chapter is critical in rightly understanding biblical eschatology, prophecy in general and the conflicts in the MidEast.
There are several lessons we can learn from the life of Abraham as we journey by faith into God's promises. This message highlights some of the important lessons. In our journey of faith we must remember that we are a people in covenant with God, and God is completely committed to us. He will not fail on His side of the covenant.

We outline several practical ways in which we can be generous with our finances: tithes and offerings; support of Christian ministries and organizations; gifts to bless other people and alms we give to help the poor and needy.

BIBLICAL SYNTHESIS
After reading the assigned Bible passages, synthesize these passages into a response to the following question: “What is the responsibility of Christians with regards to economic development, leadership within the community, and the mandates of the Gospel?”
MUST BE 600 WORDS
Biblical integration must be included in a thoughtful manner as articulated in the required

2. Citations from the required reading and presentation must be included in answering the
assigned questions.James 1:26-27New International Version
26 Those who consider themselves religious and yet do not keep a tight rein on their tongues deceive themselves, and their religion is worthless. 27 Religion that God our Father accepts as pure and faultless is this: to look after orphans and widows in their distress and to keep oneself from being polluted by the world.
Proverbs 29:7New International Version
7 The righteous care about justice for the poor,
but the wicked have no such concern.
Malachi 3:6-12New International VersionBreaking Covenant by Withholding Tithes
6 “I the Lord do not change. So you, the descendants of Jacob, are not destroyed. 7 Ever since the time of your ancestors you have turned away from my decrees and have not kept them. Return to me, and I will return to you,” says the Lord Almighty.
“But you ask, ‘How are we to return?’
8 “Will a mere mortal rob God? Yet you rob me.
“But you ask, ‘How are we robbing you?’
“In tithes and offerings. 9 You are under a curse—your whole nation—because you are robbing me. 10 Bring the whole tithe into the storehouse, that there may be food in my house. Test me in this,” says the Lord Almighty, “and see if I will not throw open the floodgates of heaven and pour out so much blessing that there will not be room enough to store it. 11 I will prevent pests from devouring your crops, and the vines in your fields will not drop their fruit before it is ripe,” says the Lord Almighty. 12 “Then all the nations will call you blessed, for yours will be a delightful land,” says the Lord Almighty.
Matthew 6New International VersionGiving to the Needy
6 “Be careful not to practice your righteousness in front of others to be seen by them. If you do, you will have no reward from your Father in heaven.
2 “So when you give to the needy, do not announce it with trumpets, as the hypocrites do in the synagogues and on the streets, to be honored by others. Truly I tell you, they have received their reward in full. 3 But when you give to the needy, do not let your left hand know what your right hand is doing, 4 so that your giving may be in secret. Then your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you.Prayer
5 “And when you pray, do not be like the hypocrites, for they love to pray standing in the synagogues and on the street corners to be seen by others. Truly I tell you, they have received their reward in full. 6 But when you pray, go into your room, close the door and pray to your Fa ...

In Jude 17-23 Jude shifts from piling up examples of false teachers from the Old Testament to a series of practical exhortations that flow from apostolic instruction. He preserves for us what may well have been part of the apostolic catechism for the first generation of Christ-followers. In these instructions Jude exhorts the believer to deal with 3 different groups of people: scoffers who are "devoid of the Spirit", believers who have come under the influence of scoffers and believers who are so entrenched in false teaching that they need rescue and pose some real spiritual risk for the rescuer. In all of this Jude emphasizes Jesus' call to rescue straying sheep, leaving the 99 safely behind and pursuing the 1.

5. •Christians should be faithful in giving
their tithes, like the Israelites, the 11
tribes give their tithes to the Levites.
•But some Christian are having hard time
in giving their because of ignorance.
6.
7. 13 The Lord will make you the head, not the
tail. If you pay attention to the commands of
the Lord your God that I give you this day
and carefully follow them, you will always be
at the top, never at the bottom.
8. Wealth is not the covenant but the
blessing that follows the person who
keeps the covenant.
9. 1 The Lord had said to Abram, “Go from your
country, your people and your father’s
household to the land I will show you. 2 “I will
make you into a great nation, and I will bless you;
I will make your name great, and you will be a
blessing. 3 I will bless those who bless you, and
whoever curses you I will curse; and all peoples
on earth will be blessed through you.”
15. 3 Stay in this land for a while, and I will be with
you and will bless you. For to you and your
descendants I will give all these lands and will
confirm the oath I swore to your father Abraham.
4 I will make your descendants as numerous as
the stars in the sky and will give them all these
lands, and through your offspring all nations on
earth will be blessed, 5 because Abraham obeyed
me and kept my requirements, my commands, my
decrees and my laws." 6 So Isaac stayed in Gerar.
17. 20 Then Jacob made a vow, saying, “If God will be with
me and will watch over me on this journey I am taking
and will give me food to eat and clothes to wear 21 so
that I return safely to my father’s household, then
the Lord[a] will be my God 22 and[b] this stone that I
have set up as a pillar will be God’s house, and of all that
you give me I will give you a tenth.”
JACOB HAD ALREADY LAID THE
GROUNDWORK FOR THIS TRANSFER.
23. 17 Abraham fell facedown; he laughed and said to
himself, "Will a son be born to a man a hundred
years old? Will Sarah bear a child at the age of
ninety?"
25. Now there was a famine in the land--besides the
earlier famine of Abraham's time--and Isaac went
to Abimelech king of the Philistines in Gerar. The
LORD appeared to Isaac and said, "Do not go
down to Egypt; live in the land where I tell you to
live.(NIV)
27. 6 You know that I’ve worked for your father with
all my strength, 7 yet your father has cheated me
by changing my wages ten times. However, God
has not allowed him to harm me. 8 If he said, ‘The
speckled ones will be your wages,’ then all the
flocks gave birth to speckled young; and if he
said, ‘The streaked ones will be your
wages,’ then all the flocks bore streaked
young. 9 So God has taken away your father’s
livestock and has given them to me.
28. LABAN COULD DO NOTHING TO STOP
THIS TRANSFER OF WEALTH TO JACOB.
39. •The enemy is trying to contain us because we
are the ones who will finance the end time
harvest of souls. Unbelievers will never finance
the Gospel so Satan doesn’t contain them.
•Gospel must be preached in the entire world.
This requires a great amount of wealth!
•Unless we have a financial breakthrough the
Church will never rise to the fullness of the
vision God intended.
40. Being poor is not a Godly
thing, it is not a Biblical sign.
42. Now the law requires the
descendants of Levi who become priests to
collect a tenth from the people—that is, from
their fellow Israelites—even though they also
are descended from Abraham.
“‘A tithe of everything
from the land, whether grain from the soil or
fruit from the trees, belongs to the Lord; it is
holy to the Lord.
44. 10 Bring the whole tithe into the storehouse, that
there may be food in my house. Test me in this,"
says the LORD Almighty, "and see if I will not
throw open the floodgates of heaven and pour out
so much blessing that you will not have room
enough for it.
47. Will a man rob God? Yet you rob
me. "But you ask, 'How do we
rob you?' "In tithes and
offerings. You are under a curse
- the whole nation of you-
because you are robbing me
rob: qaba` (kaw-bah');
defraud, rob, spoil, embezzle.
THE CURSED
BUSINESS.
48.
49. You have planted much, but have
harvested little. You eat, but
never have enough. You drink,
but never have your fill. You put
on clothes, but are not warm.
You earn wages, only to put
them in a purse with holes in it.
THE CURSED
BUSINESS.
50. TWO KINDS OF BUSINESS
THE CURSED BUSINESS. THE BLESSED BUSINESS.
51. I will prevent pests from
devouring your crops…says the
LORD Almighty. "Then all the
nations will call you blessed…”THE BLESSED
BUSINESS.
90% with God’s blessing is far more than
100% without it.
52. 10 Bring the whole tithe into the storehouse, that
there may be food in my house. Test me in this,"
says the LORD Almighty, "and see if I will not
throw open the floodgates of heaven and pour out
so much blessing that you will not have room
enough for it.
53. A tithe is 10% of your income. This is a big
commitment for anyone. So, try the three-month
challenge: Tithe for three months. If God doesn’t
hold true to the promises in Malachi 3:10-11,
we’ll give it all back.
54.
55. …You give a tenth of your spices-mint, dill and
cummin. But you have neglected the more
important matters of the law-justice, mercy and
faithfulness. You should have practiced the
latter, without neglecting the former.
56. Tithes opens the blessings in heaven and
your offering determines the amount of
your blessings to be poured out.
57. •Have you ever stolen something? If so, how did it
make you feel? (Remember, not tithing is stealing
from God.
•If you’re not tithing, what’s holding you back?
•What is your idea of a “blessed business?”
•If you are tithing, encourage others with stories
of God’s faithfulness.
