5. SUPPORTING STATEMENT
Please read the job description and person specification. Using examples, show how your
knowledge, skills and experience meet each of the essential requirements of the person
specification and as many desirable requirements as possible. Please draw on your relevant
experiences; including paid employment, voluntary work, family experiences and leisure activities
as evidence.
I love teaching children and your school offers some exciting opportunities. This is exactly the job
I have been looking for. After reviewing the job description, and the person specification provided,
I want to outline why I believe I am the right candidate for this position.
I have a degree in civil engineering and a minor in mathematics. I am currently training to be a
teacher while working towards my PGCE in secondary mathematics with QTS. I have experience
of working for an engineering company; as part of a team, as the person responsible for checking
the work of detailers in the office, and as a field inspector - meeting with contractors and
superintendents. After spending some months volunteering at a British boarding school in India I
discovered that my true passion was for teaching children. I particularly want to focus on KS3 and
KS4 mathematics curriculum, with a view of teaching A-level students if the opportunity presents
itself in the future.
I love working with young people and have developed many of my leadership and communication
skills by volunteering at summer and winter camps, young people’s retreats, school-led
expeditions, service project trips, speaking at assemblies, running an after-school club, directing a
children’s club and taking a gap year to broaden my perspective on life. I desire for young
people’s confidence to grow that they may reach their full potential and get a well-rounded
education. No job could be more rewarding.
I am a keen teacher, with fresh ideas from my University on such topics as motivation, learning
and teaching pedagogy, differentiation strategies, assessment for learning, and behavior
management. I love mathematics and seek to enthuse students with a love for the subject. In
addition to being proficient in ICT, I have had the opportunity to further develop my skills on Smart
Boards and IWBs, and to experiment with various other media.
My personal subject tutor, school mentor and university visiting tutor are all very impressed with
my organizational skills. Through the use of written agendas, reflections on teachers’
demonstrations, and written reflections on my teaching episodes, I strive to meet the Teachers’
Standards and establish successful classroom techniques. I am making use of assessment to
inform my lesson planning in order to set learning targets that pupils will benefit from. I regularly
discuss with subject tutors how I feel my lessons went, and because of their insight about each
pupil, I find ways to improve my teaching for it to be more effective.
I am keen to contribute to the development of new initiatives within the department and to uphold
and reinforce whole school and departmental policies. I am currently providing written
observations for some in this department regarding their use of differentiation strategies, as was
agreed in our last departmental meeting.
At my current placement school (St Peter’s C of E Aided School), I have had the opportunity to
work with a variety of year groups, class sizes, and a wide spectrum of abilities. I enjoy working
as part of a team and I am able to work with a group of students as well as one-to-one. I take the
advice given to me, by those with experience, with gratitude. I firmly believe that research plays a
key role in determining effective practice and have written a paper for my University course on
intrinsic motivational strategies. I seek to develop my career as a teacher in order to be
outstanding. I am looking forward to my second placement school (Queen Elizabeth Academy),
where I hope to learn even more about teaching.
I have participated at a Year 9 parents’ evening at St Peter’s, and have contributed towards
writing reports while volunteering at a British boarding school in India. By developing a rapport
with my pupils, having a clear presentation, and implementing effective motivational strategies, I
find that behavior management is something that can be worked on from many angles.
I have looked at St. James’ website and am excited with what I see there. I’d like to thank you for
considering my application and hope you will find in me a strong candidate for the post.

Using examples, show how your knowledge, skills and experience meet each of the essential requirements of the person specification and as many desirable requirements as possible. Please draw on your relevant experiences; including paid employment, voluntary work, family experiences and leisure activities as evidence. I love teaching children and your school offers some exciting opportunities. This is exactly the job I have been looking for. After reviewing the job description, and the person specification provided, I want to outline why I believe I am the right candidate for this position. I have a degree in civil engineering and a minor in mathematics. I am currently training to be a teacher while working towards my PGCE in secondary mathematics with QTS. I have experience of working for an engineering company; as part of a team, as the person responsible for checking the work of detailers in the office, and as a field inspector - meeting with contractors and superintendents. After spending some months volunteering at a British boarding school in India I discovered that my true passion was for teaching children. I particularly want to focus on KS3 and KS4 mathematics curriculum, with a view of teaching A-level students if the opportunity presents itself in the future. I love working with young people and have developed many of my leadership and communication skills by volunteering at summer and winter camps, young people’s retreats, school-led expeditions, service project trips, speaking at assemblies, running an after-school club, directing a children’s club and taking a gap year to broaden my perspective on life. I desire for young people’s confidence to grow that they may reach their full potential and get a well-rounded education. No job could be more rewarding. I am a keen teacher, with fresh ideas from my University on such topics as motivation, learning and teaching pedagogy, differentiation strategies, assessment for learning, and behavior management. I love mathematics and seek to enthuse students with a love for the subject. In addition to being proficient in ICT, I have had the opportunity to further develop my skills on Smart Boards and IWBs, and to experiment with various other media. My personal subject tutor, school mentor and university visiting tutor are all very impressed with my organizational skills. Through the use of written agendas, reflections on teachers’ demonstrations, and written reflections on my teaching episodes, I strive to meet the Teachers’ Standards and establish successful classroom techniques. I am making use of assessment to inform my lesson planning in order to set learning targets that pupils will benefit from. I regularly discuss with subject tutors how I feel my lessons went, and because of their insight about each pupil, I find ways to improve my teaching for it to be more effective. I am keen to contribute to the development of new initiatives within the department and to uphold and reinforce whole school and departmental policies. I am currently providing written observations for some in this department regarding their use of differentiation strategies, as was agreed in our last departmental meeting. At my current placement school (St Peter’s C of E Aided School), I have had the opportunity to work with a variety of year groups, class sizes, and a wide spectrum of abilities. I enjoy working as part of a team and I am able to work with a group of students as well as one-to-one. I take the advice given to me, by those with experience, with gratitude. I firmly believe that research plays a key role in determining effective practice and have written a paper for my University course on intrinsic motivational strategies. I seek to develop my career as a teacher in order to be outstanding. I am looking forward to my second placement school (Queen Elizabeth Academy), where I hope to learn even more about teaching. I have participated at a Year 9 parents’ evening at St Peter’s, and have contributed towards writing reports while volunteering at a British boarding school in India. By developing a rapport with my pupils, having a clear presentation, and implementing effective motivational strategies, I find that behavior management is something that can be worked on from many angles. I have looked at St. James’ website and am excited with what I see there. I’d like to thank you for considering my application and hope you will find in me a strong candidate for the post.
