SSBHE Dinner Series

The SSBHE was created in 2011 to connect Schulich HIMP colleagues, students, and partners and raise awareness of the HIMP program. It hosts dinner events where a host meets with 5-6 HIMP students and 3-4 alumni over food and drinks to discuss health industry insights. The dinners are informal, held at various locations, and last 2-3 hours. They benefit all participants by allowing students and alumni to share perspectives and network, while hosts gain fresh ideas from their discussions. Over 200 people have requested to attend the popular events in the past three years.

moma-django is a MongoDB manager for Django. It provides native Django ORM support for MongoDB documents, including the query API and the admin interface. It was developed as a part of two commercial products and released as an open source. In the talk we will review the motivation behind its developments, its features and go through 2-3 examples of how to use some of the features: migrating an existing model, advanced queries and the admin interface. If time permits we will discuss unit testing and south migrations.

Our team worked with teenagers aged 13-17 at the New Community After School program to discuss important health and social issues. We focused on nutrition, drugs, relationships, and preparing for college. For nutrition, we incorporated healthy cooking lessons and discussed the consequences of poor diets. When discussing drugs, we aimed to clarify misconceptions about marijuana and encourage candid discussion. We also addressed alcohol use through interactive games to provide facts while relating to the teens' experiences. To prepare for college, we highlighted the financial benefits and dispelled common myths, then reviewed the application process. Throughout, we strived to engage the teens through flexible discussions and activities tailored to their backgrounds.

Expo 15 returned to Manchester and was hosted once again by NHS England. Around 5000 people a day from health and care, the voluntary sector, local government, and industry joined together at Manchester Central Convention Centre for two packed days of speakers, workshops, exhibitions and professional development.
This year, Expo was more relevant and engaging than ever before, happening within the first 100 days of the new Government, and almost 12 months after the publication of the NHS Five Year Forward View. Youth Engagement Services offers three main programs - TAGS, IRL, and KYAB - to support youth. TAGS includes weekly discussions on topics youth face and monthly field trips. IRL holds weekly workshops on life skills like career prep, communication, and service. KYAB advocates for kinship youth. The document provides examples of session topics for TAGS and IRL. It also describes special programs like Dance for Life, which uses workshops to empower girls, and Camp COPES, a basketball league that includes life skills training.

SSBHE Dinner Series
- 2. The burning platform of the SSBHE In 2011, the SSBHE was created to: • Connect Schulich Health Industry Management Program (HIMP) colleagues, students and partners • Assist in raising awareness of the Schulich HIMP as a leader in creating relevant health industry knowledge

- 4. For three years the Dinners have been a smashing success: 25 hosts and special guests 80+ Schulich students & alumni Hundreds of conversations, many new connections, and tons of insights 200+ requests to attend the first 9 events
- 5. The Dinners are a win-win for everyone! Why Participate? • Hear refreshing perspectives and cutting-edge insights from both HIMP student and alumni attendees • Meet alumni in senior leadership roles making a difference in how the health system works and who want to learn from your experience • Gain by meeting them early in their careers and applying their fresh ideas to your own success
- 6. How do the Dinners work? What is the agenda? A free-flowing 2-3 hour talk over food and drinks. You can structure the conversation as you wish; an SSBHE member is always on hand to help you facilitate the conversation. Who organizes them? We do! You tell us „Yes‟ and we do the rest. SSBHE assigns a co-host from our Executive Team who will manage the application process and help facilitate the event. What to expect? 5-6 HIMP students and 3-4 alumni, including the co-host. Sometimes our hosts (and their spouses) invite special guests. It has always been a memorable time for all!
- 7. How do the Dinners work? Where? What time? No specific rules. In the past we have had lunches at the office or dinner at the hosts‟ home or a nearby restaurant. What is the menu? We have had pizza dinners, BBQs, and five-course meals – they are all fun! We go with your suggestion. These events are about learning from each other in a relaxed setting. What do I cover? We kindly ask you to cover the cost of the food. We believe that nurturing young talent pays off.
