Brits have a strong obsession with tea drinking, which originated in the 1600s when the British East India Company controlled tea imports. Afternoon tea is a traditional British custom involving small sandwiches, scones, cakes and muffins consumed around 4pm. There are also cream teas involving just scones, clotted cream and jam as well as high tea, which was originally a hot dinner. Making a proper cup of tea involves using freshly boiled water and brewing the tea for 2-5 minutes before adding milk, unless the tea is made in a pot in which case milk is added first.
