ARPANET was the predecessor to the modern Internet. Several regional Internet registries (RIRs) were established to manage IP addresses and domain names regionally, including ARIN, RIPE, APNIC, AfriNIC, and LACNIC. Key elements of Internet infrastructure include IP versions 4 and 6, the Domain Name System (DNS), and search engines that index the public web and allow users to search content online.
