Project Description:
Web Experience Management (WEM) is an initiative from Cisco which includes migration
from the current content management system (WEB Publisher) to the new content management
system (Adobe CQ5) and also migration of the existing legacy 1.x system, 2.0 and portal to the
new WEM rendering system. Also, it includes the migration of the content around 10 million
from the web publisher which has 1.x, 2,0 and portal to the new content management system
(Adobe CQ5) where we will be developing a new rendering system altogether to render the
migrated 1.x, 2.0 and portal content.
As it is a huge project which involves lot of stake holders from different teams and migration of
3 different rendering systems related content ( around 10 million) from the current content
management system (Web Publisher) to the new content management system (Adobe CQ5). It is
divided in to 3 phases. Please find the details below.
Phase I: Retiring the current legacy 1. X system and migration of around 5 million static content
to CQ5 which renders the content dynamically.
Phase II: Retiring the current 2.0 systems and migration of around 3 million content to CQ5.
Phase III: Retiring the current portal system and migration of around 2 million content to CQ5.
Also, retiring the current content management system completely and using the new content
management system (Adobe CQ5) for all the publishing activities.
At a high level, the following feature list would be designed and developed as a part of Phase 1
of the project. Here are the highlights:
• User Administration Module will provide the capability for the Site area Administrators
and Site Owners to manage the site, manage the groups and users within the groups by
providing them the appropriate permissions and access rights to perform content
management activities.
• Content Management, feature provided by the tool (CQ5) for authoring, will be leveraged
to the fullest. The business users will be able to perform the following activities:
• Import content from various sources, like other repositories, from local desktops.
• Manage content/pages – update content properties, publish the content, create and
manage renditions, initiate workflows to review and approve the content, preview the
page once the content has been added to the page, create versions, view the versions,
search content and finally expire the content when the content reaches its end of lifecycle,
delete content that is no longer required in authoring instance.
• Versioning – create versions of the pages created in the authoring instance, system will
create and manage automatic versions for the published pages.
• Manage workflows for reviews and approvals, take actions on the workflows, and view
the statuses.
• Taxonomy Management – business users will be able to manage the user-defined
taxonomies.
• Reporting – the business users will be able to generate reports on the pages, end-to-end
publishing, workflows (initiated, work-in-progress, closed), etc.
• Interfaces with various systems that are connected to CDC via web services.
• System functions will cover the management of the attributes (metadata) required for the
pages, the user-defined taxonomies, the doctypes, page templates and components.
• The pages published in Authoring will be rendered on cisco.com; the content delivery
will be based on the entitlements.
Contributions:
• Review of the Business Requirements Documents and making sure that all the
requirements are captured as he has the in-depth end to end domain knowledge of the
current content management and 1.x rendering system.
• Involved in the design discussions of the new CQ5 content management and rendering
systems.
• Interacting with different stake holders, cross functional teams, project managers,
program managers, tech leads and developers which include understanding the new
system and explaining them about the current system and functionalities that needs to be
implemented in the new system.
• Involved in the trainings for the tech leads, project managers, developers on the current
content management and legacy 1.x rendering system as he is one of the very few
resources who knows the end to end flow of both the systems.
• Played key role in giving sprint demos to the business team on the new system and in
explaining them the pain points of the old system and additional benefits of the new
system.
• Analyzed Business and Functional specifications for formulation of Test Plan, Test Cases
and Test Scripts for the Functional, Regression and Smoke testing.
• Implementing complete life cycle of QA Methodologies starting from Planning,
Capturing, Creating, and Executing, Reporting and Tracking the defects.

Also, it includes the migration of the content around 10 million from the web publisher which has 1.x, 2,0 and portal to the new content management system (Adobe CQ5) where we will be developing a new rendering system altogether to render the migrated 1.x, 2.0 and portal content. As it is a huge project which involves lot of stake holders from different teams and migration of 3 different rendering systems related content ( around 10 million) from the current content management system (Web Publisher) to the new content management system (Adobe CQ5). It is divided in to 3 phases. Please find the details below. Phase I: Retiring the current legacy 1. X system and migration of around 5 million static content to CQ5 which renders the content dynamically. Phase II: Retiring the current 2.0 systems and migration of around 3 million content to CQ5. Phase III: Retiring the current portal system and migration of around 2 million content to CQ5. Also, retiring the current content management system completely and using the new content management system (Adobe CQ5) for all the publishing activities.
