Agile is transformational for digital projects in museums.
Working in an Agile way emphasizes inclusivity and digital responsiveness. It helps to deliver on this year’s conference theme by helping museum professionals realise projects that will create, facilitate, deliver or participate in culture, science and heritage through networked technologies – wherever the network may reach.
In this half-day workshop we will introduce participants to Agile, specifically SCRUM, and the benefits it provides in terms of delivering projects that meet user and stakeholder needs.
Participants can expect to learn the basics of Agile and be armed with the knowledge to make a meaningful change in their respective organizations.
In the session we will run through some practical exercises to demonstrate how Agile works. These hands-on sessions will illustrate the high level principles and benefits of Agile. After the practical session we’ll look at the intricacies of the process in more detail.
There are no pre-requisites to the workshop and we will provide materials for participants to use during the workshop. These materials will also be a reference for when participants want to start implementing Agile in their own projects.
This session is aimed at Agile beginners from any discipline, it would benefit project managers, digital developers and program managers among others.

In this talk we’ll quickly present an introduction to JOOQ from a high level, discuss its features, and see several examples of how we’re using JOOQ to great effect with many Spring Boot and Ratpack apps within our platform.

One of the largest ISPs in Europe distributed millions of vulnerable devices to their customers without any security checks. Now these devices are up and running all over Europe and can provide Internet access and jump hosts for hackers and criminals.
In this presentation the speaker will show you the whole process of a proper CPE device testing with its pitfalls and joyrides. During this test a handful of 0days were discovered and these will be presented. It will be shown how an attacker with zero-knowledge can log into a private network by getting the factory default WPA passphrases from MAC addresses or even worse, the changed passphrase! The other 0day brings a root shell with plenty of buffer overflows, factory backdoors in the firmware. All vulnerabilities’ root cause will be presented to the audience with good laughs.

In our discussions around testing, we usually tend to focus on WHAT we are building. Our context revolves around the application under test. We rarely stop and think HOW we develop and deliver our software. How do we navigate between Build, Test and Deploy stages?
Nowadays, in approaches such as Continuous Delivery, we aim to develop software faster, in a way that is more robust. Techniques like infrastructure-as-code or pipeline-as-code bring us an additional aspect of testing - we are now creating even more software helping us build the actual application.
Does your delivery process support quality? Does the way your team makes deployments get the same attention that your application gets? Who checks your build or release process? Who takes care of your delivery pipeline? Who is your... plumber?
In my talk, I would like to shed more light on the often neglected problems related to designing, developing and testing delivery pipelines and, most importantly, show how this knowledge might affect the way you approach testing. Examples will be based on my adventures with building web applications using tools like Maven, Jenkins Pipelines, and Chef, but I will also talk about the more important aspect - communication.

PuppetConf 2014 Killer R10K Workflow With Notes
R10K is a tool that automates the deployment of Puppet modules and environments. The presenter's organization previously used a single monolithic repository to manage all of their Puppet code and hiera data, which led to long test cycles, all-or-nothing deployments, and other issues. They transitioned to using R10K along with separate repositories for each module and hiera data. Now, changes can be tested and deployed independently for each module through a Sinatra-based Git hook that handles dynamic Puppetfile manipulation and environment deployment with R10K.

It is with great pleasure that we extend to you an invitation to the 5th Power Grid Model Meet-up, scheduled for 6th June 2024. This event will adopt a hybrid format, allowing participants to join us either through an online Mircosoft Teams session or in person at TU/e located at Den Dolech 2, Eindhoven, Netherlands. The meet-up will be hosted by Eindhoven University of Technology (TU/e), a research university specializing in engineering science & technology.
Power Grid Model
The global energy transition is placing new and unprecedented demands on Distribution System Operators (DSOs). Alongside upgrades to grid capacity, processes such as digitization, capacity optimization, and congestion management are becoming vital for delivering reliable services.
Power Grid Model is an open source project from Linux Foundation Energy and provides a calculation engine that is increasingly essential for DSOs. It offers a standards-based foundation enabling real-time power systems analysis, simulations of electrical power grids, and sophisticated what-if analysis. In addition, it enables in-depth studies and analysis of the electrical power grid’s behavior and performance. This comprehensive model incorporates essential factors such as power generation capacity, electrical losses, voltage levels, power flows, and system stability.
Power Grid Model is currently being applied in a wide variety of use cases, including grid planning, expansion, reliability, and congestion studies. It can also help in analyzing the impact of renewable energy integration, assessing the effects of disturbances or faults, and developing strategies for grid control and optimization.

Dandelion Hashtable: beyond billion requests per second on a commodity server
This slide deck presents DLHT, a concurrent in-memory hashtable. Despite efforts to optimize hashtables, that go as far as sacrificing core functionality, state-of-the-art designs still incur multiple memory accesses per request and block request processing in three cases. First, most hashtables block while waiting for data to be retrieved from memory. Second, open-addressing designs, which represent the current state-of-the-art, either cannot free index slots on deletes or must block all requests to do so. Third, index resizes block every request until all objects are copied to the new index. Defying folklore wisdom, DLHT forgoes open-addressing and adopts a fully-featured and memory-aware closed-addressing design based on bounded cache-line-chaining. This design offers lock-free index operations and deletes that free slots instantly, (2) completes most requests with a single memory access, (3) utilizes software prefetching to hide memory latencies, and (4) employs a novel non-blocking and parallel resizing. In a commodity server and a memory-resident workload, DLHT surpasses 1.6B requests per second and provides 3.5x (12x) the throughput of the state-of-the-art closed-addressing (open-addressing) resizable hashtable on Gets (Deletes).
