DEVNET-1102 Introduction to the DevNet Sandbox and IVTCisco DevNet
Come to this session to hear about the DevNet Sandbox and how it can accelerate your product development and reduce IVT costs! DevNet Sandboxes are an easy to use, cost-effective alternative to building out your own hardware lab and testing environment for many applications integrating with Cisco Technologies. All DevNet members have access to our sandbox labs for development, internal testing and in some cases IVT!. In this session you will learn about technologies offered, lab features and our roadmap for new labs and IVT programs.

Developers who work with quantities (sensor reading from edge devices, scientific, engineering, medical, or manufacturing) need to handle measurements of these quantities in their programs. Inadequate models of physical measurements can lead to programmatic errors. In particular when modelling a measurement as a simple number with no regard to the units it represents creates fragile code. Another developer or part of the system can misinterpret the number as a different unit. For example, it may be unclear whether a person's mass is expressed in pounds, kilograms, or stones. A human reading „10°C“, „10 C“ or simply „10 Degrees“ may interpret each of those correctly. For M2M communication, unless a program contains a „Babel Fish“, such ambiguity would not be acceptable.
Don’t Panic: After programming languages like Ada, C++, Eiffel or F# added type-safe Unit support already, JSR 363, Units of Measurement API will add similar support to the Java Platform, making it competitive for M2M in the Internet of Things with strong emphasis on sensors.
This session provides an overview of popular use cases for the Units of Measurement JSR and implementations on both Java ME 8 Embedded (CLDC 8) and Java SE 8. A Hitchhiker’s guide across places where this JSR helps improve data quality or save lives by ensuring e.g. a patient receives the correct dosage of medicine or smart homes and similar energy saving measures prevents Earth from being destroyed by Global Warming (rather than waiting for a Vogon express route ;-)

Bringing the cloud into the classroom
A brief introduction to Cloud Technologies followed by discussion about Staffordshire University's School of Computing use of cloud technologies across a range of mobile programming modules.
Collaborative Working helps assets to operate more efficiently and as one team, resulting in higher production, less cost, lower HSE exposure and higher morale. Shell has pursued the Digital Oilfield for the last fifteen years, under the heading of Smart Fields. Collaborative Work Environments (CWEs) were implemented in the majority of assets, live environments now cover over 60% of Shell’s production. The presentation will provide an overview of current Collaborative Work Environments. It will show examples of CWEs in different types of assets, and of the business value achieved. The large scale implementation was achieved through a structured deployment programme, taking assets and projects through a standard design, implementation and embedding approach. To embed and sustain the new ways of working, a focus on the people aspects and change management has been critical. Each project included process design, awareness and training sessions and establishing coaches, support and continuous improvement.
Frans van den Berg is currently an independent consultant in the design of Digital Oilfields and Collaborative Work Environments. He has worked 32 years in Shell, lastly in its global Smart Fields or Digital Oilfield program in the technology organisation in the Netherlands. There he led the global implementation of Collaborative Work Environments in Shell. He has held various positions as a petroleum engineer, head of petrohysics and asset development leader in operational roles and in global technology deployment. He worked ten years in Malaysia and Thailand. Frans has a PhD and a Master in Physics from Leiden University in the Netherlands. He has been involved in the organisation of the SPE Intelligent Energy and Digital Energy Conferences since 2008.

Artificial Intelligence (AI) technologies such as Generative AI, Image Generators and Large Language Models have had a dramatic impact on teaching, learning and assessment over the past 18 months. The most immediate threat AI posed was to Academic Integrity with Higher Education Institutes (HEIs) focusing their efforts on combating the use of GenAI in assessment. Guidelines were developed for staff and students, policies put in place too. Innovative educators have forged paths in the use of Generative AI for teaching, learning and assessments leading to pockets of transformation springing up across HEIs, often with little or no top-down guidance, support or direction.
This Gasta posits a strategic approach to integrating AI into HEIs to prepare staff, students and the curriculum for an evolving world and workplace. We will highlight the advantages of working with these technologies beyond the realm of teaching, learning and assessment by considering prompt engineering skills, industry impact, curriculum changes, and the need for staff upskilling. In contrast, not engaging strategically with Generative AI poses risks, including falling behind peers, missed opportunities and failing to ensure our graduates remain employable. The rapid evolution of AI technologies necessitates a proactive and strategic approach if we are to remain relevant.

1987, with a subsidiary in Houston, USA and an office in The Netherlands. Staff of 90,
