Success can be measured in many different ways from
trophies, to educational achievements, to workplace
promotions but, sometimes you need measuring cups
in a culinary arts kitchen to measure success. At
Chef Myrna Betancourt’s Café Du Jour, at Chapman
Partnership South, success is measured by being
named Miami-Dade County lead Teacher of the Year.
Chef Betancourt teaches culinary arts to her students,
ranging in age from 16 to 60. Her students are often
disadvantaged, sometimes homeless, and always
seeking a second chance to succeed. Chef Betancourt
also invites hospitality employers to taste her students’
cuisine in a restaurant-like setting of Café Du Jour.
“We have students working all over Miami-Dade
in hotels and restaurants and some students are
continuing their education at schools such as Le Cordon
Bleu,” said Chef Betancourt. “Not too long ago one
of my students who was homeless told me, ‘Chef,
thank you. People don’t look down on me anymore.
When I wear a chef’s jacket they actually try to make
eye contact.’”
Chef Betancourt has made a huge impact beyond the
school, teaching the homeless, special needs students
and students from Homestead Job Corps as well as
veterans to succeed not just in the kitchen, but in life.

Our Mission Statement
Provide comprehensive services to empower homeless residents to become self-sufficient.
Chairman'sLetter
A Roaring Good Time at 3rd Annual RunWild 5K
Run / Walk at Zoo Miami
RunWild5KReview
During 1995, when Chapman Partnership
first opened its doors to the homeless men,
women and children of our community, no
one would have realistically imagined that
nearly 20 years later, we would have
achieved wide-spread national recognition
as a model for homeless assistance because
of our exceptional success in caring for
and rehabilitating the homeless.
More recently, we have won Charity
Navigator’s 4-star rating for three years in a
row--- an achievement that only 11% of the
nation’s nonprofits can claim. In 2013,
Switchboard Miami recognized Chapman
Partnership from among all nonprofits in the
community, with its “All Star Award” for
Leadership.
These recognitions are a profound reflection
of Chapman Partnership’s extraordinary,
unwavering commitment to its mission by its
highly dedicated Board of Trustees, employees,
volunteers and social service partners.
WORKING TOGETHER AS A DEDICATED TEAM,
committed to excellence, we have been able to
achieve a lifetime success rate of moving 64% of
our residents from homelessness to self-
sufficiency -- and that is more than three times
the national average for such efforts.
Along the way to achieving such an astounding
success rate, we have consistently chosen to
excel beyond what is expected from a homeless
assistance center by providing more than just an
emergency bed and meal to our residents.
Since our founding, Chapman Partnership has
been achieving positive, life-changing results for
our residents through programs and services
that include the following:
s #OMPREHENSIVE AND PERSONALIZED CASE
management for the 97,500 homeless men,
women and families who have come to
Chapman Partnership in their time of need.
s /UR &AMILY 2ESOURCE #ENTERS PROVIDE DAY CARE
and after school services for the nearly 20,000
homeless children we have admitted since we
opened our doors.
s (EALTH
MENTAL AND DENTAL CARE FOR ALL RESIDENTS
through our two medical clinics, which have
handled more than 166,500 patient visits and
our mobile dental unit that has performed
more than 76,500 dental procedures to date.
s *OB DEVELOPMENT
TRAINING AND PLACEMENT
programs headed by two job developers who
have placed nearly 400 residents into full-
time jobs in just the last 12 months, with an
average pay of $10/hour.
s 7ITH THE HELP OF OUR
VOLUNTEERS
WE
serve 3 hot meals a day, 365 days a year for
more than 800,000 meals per year.
These achievements are made possible only
through the extraordinary efforts of our Board
of Trustees along with our staff and volunteers,
who are not satisfied with the status quo and
who continually strive for goals that reach
far beyond what is expected. It is through
dedication to excellence and a passion for
improving the lives of and empowering
the homeless to become self-sufficient that
we are able to fulfill our mission: to provide
comprehensive services to empower homeless
residents to become self-sufficient. I want to
express my deep appreciation and respect to all
the men, women and youth who have
supported Chapman Partnership and made our
organization a highly respected national “best
practice” model for helping the homeless. We
pray that all of you who read this message will
continue your strong support of this critically
important effort on behalf of some of our
community’s most vulnerable citizens.
With sincere appreciation,
Trish Bell

SWITCHBOARD OF MIAMI honored outstanding non-profit organizations at their Second Annual All Stars Non-profit Awards Luncheon last October.
There are seven categories of excellence in which 5,000 Switchboard of Miami partners compete for recognition. Last year Chapman Partnership was
recognized as the MVP or Most Valuable Non-Profit in Miami.
This year Chapman Partnership won for Leadership. The dictionary defines Leadership as the “ability to lead others by example.” This award speaks
volumes about Chapman Partnership’s leadership in the following areas:
s Leadership in board governance and fiscal responsibility.
s Leadership in having a strong and dedicated staff.
s Leadership in teamwork with our board, employees and volunteers working together with our partners to transform the lives of homeless men,
women and children in our community.
