Stories
From a Mate
Volunteering through Community Mates for the Disabled Surfers Association (D.S.A.) at
Maroochydore Beach recently with my teenage son was amazing! We had no previous
experience, but it was easy and the team leaders were fantastic, showing us what to do.
Volunteering was the perfect re-bonding for a grumpy teenager and an "over it" Mum.
We do regular counselling and are always so busy, but this time was one of the best
investments we've made in our relationship. The experience reminded me of my son's
good nature, it reminded him of all the good in his life and how he can help others and it
was a wonderful shared experience. The best part of all was the joy of being together
with beautiful people - participants, volunteers and carers. I can't recommend it highly
enough!
From NFPs
Melinda Bingley – Pretty in Pink Bra Walkathon for Breast Cancer: Community Mates
was an angel sent to me by offering their support with the Pretty in Pink Bra Walkathon
in 2016. I don’t know how we could have got through it without Community Mates. I am
grateful beyond words.
Shivawn Davis – Children’s Therapy Centre: I am delighted to recommend Community Mates to other community organisations.
The Children’s Therapy Centre had a need to develop a service resource for the many families who attend our centre. Kimberley
from Community Mates worked with us to find the perfect volunteer to support us on this project. We were thrilled with the
outcomes, and now our parents have access to a great resource that will meet their unique needs. From start to finish, Kimberley
monitored our needs and supported the process. She made what is often a complicated process, into a simple one. We are very
grateful to Community Mates for their support, and will not hesitate to approach them again for future projects.
Jodi Durkin – RACQ LifeFlight: This year I had the mammoth task of
organising over 100 volunteers to help run 24 days of Christmas
Gift Wrapping at Sunshine Plaza. Our goal was to raise over
$20,000 and to do that we needed help and lots of it. Community
Mates heard about my plight and got on the phone and asked
what do you need? The call went out and next thing I know I have
Community Mates volunteers rising to the call for help. I seriously
could not have achieved this without them.
Community Mates can be relied on to deliver on what they promise
and I will definitely be using them again.
