1st-3rd Grade Spelling Bee Words
1. Spelling bee Words (1st – 3rd)
1. Weather: The short-term state of the atmosphere at a specific time and place,
including the temperature, relative humidity, cloud cover, precipitation, wind, etc.
Sentence: Wooden garden furniture must be well oiled as it is continuously exposed
to weather.
2. Rainstorm: A storm characterized by substantial, heavy rainfall.
Sentence: we ran into a big rainstorm on Highway 6, and the visibility was so poor we
had to pull over.
3. Swimming: The act or art of sustaining and propelling the body in water.
Sentence: I am going swimming later today.
4. Pineapple: A tropical plant, Ananas comosus, native to South America, having thirty
or more long, spined and pointed leaves surrounding a thick stem.
Sentence: I bought a can of chopped pineapple.
5. Summer: One of four seasons, traditionally the second, marked by the longest and
typically hottest days of the year.
Sentence: We visited them two summers ago.
6. Culture: The arts, customs, lifestyles, background, and habits that characterize a
particular society or nation.

9. Computer: a programmable usually electronic device that can store, retrieve, and
process data.

12. Borrow: to receive with the implied or expressed intention of returning the same or an

Sentence: The firefighter arrived on time to the emergency call.
16. Breakfast: the first meal of the day especially when taken in the morning.
Sentence: I always eat pancakes when having breakfast.
17. Librarian: a specialist in the care or management of a library.
Sentence: The librarian knows where to find any book.
18. Hospital: an institution where the sick or injured are given medical or surgical care.
Sentence: I took my mother to the hospital because she was feeling sick.
19. Grocery: the food and supplies sold by a grocer.
Sentence: She stopped to pick up some groceries for supper.
20. Midnight: the middle of the night.
Sentence: My father arrived home at midnight.
21. Savanna: a temperate grassland with scattered trees (such as oaks).
Sentence: Elephants can be seen in the Savanna.
22. Museum: an institution devoted to the procurement, care, study, and display of
objects of lasting interest or value.
Sentence: Last vacation, we visited the American Museum of Natural History.
23. Laugh: to show emotion (such as mirth, joy, or scorn) with a chuckle or explosive
vocal sound.
Sentence: Emily has a funny laugh.
