Spelling bee Words (1st – 3rd)
1. Weather: The short-term state of the atmosphere at a specific time and place,
including the temperature, relative humidity, cloud cover, precipitation, wind, etc.
Sentence: Wooden garden furniture must be well oiled as it is continuously exposed
to weather.
2. Rainstorm: A storm characterized by substantial, heavy rainfall.
Sentence: we ran into a big rainstorm on Highway 6, and the visibility was so poor we
had to pull over.
3. Swimming: The act or art of sustaining and propelling the body in water.
Sentence: I am going swimming later today.
4. Pineapple: A tropical plant, Ananas comosus, native to South America, having thirty
or more long, spined and pointed leaves surrounding a thick stem.
Sentence: I bought a can of chopped pineapple.
5. Summer: One of four seasons, traditionally the second, marked by the longest and
typically hottest days of the year.
Sentence: We visited them two summers ago.
6. Culture: The arts, customs, lifestyles, background, and habits that characterize a
particular society or nation.
Sentence: I'm headed to the lab to make sure my cell culture hasn't died.
7. Dinosaur: In scientific usage, any of the animals belonging to the clade Dinosauria,
especially those that existed during the Triassic, Jurassic and Cretaceous periods
and are now extinct.
Sentence: A dinosaur was found in the Southern Americas.
8. Teacher: A person who teaches, especially one employed in a school.
Sentence: She is a first-grade teacher.
9. Computer: a programmable usually electronic device that can store, retrieve, and
process data.
Sentence: My computer is broken.
10. Pollution: Physical contamination, now especially the contamination of the
environment by harmful substances, or by disruptive levels of noise, light etc.
Sentence: The fish are dying of pollution.
11. Wallet: A small case, often flat and often made of leather, for keeping money
(especially paper money), credit cards, etc.
Sentence: The thief stole all the money and credit cards out of the old man's wallet.
12. Borrow: to receive with the implied or expressed intention of returning the same or an
equivalent.
Sentence: She borrowed a book from the library.
13. Building: A closed structure with walls and a roof.
Sentence: My office is in that small brick building.
14. Orange: a globose berry with a yellowish to reddish-orange rind and a sweet edible
pulp.
Sentence: He peeled an orange.
15. Firefighter: a person who fights fires, puts out fires.
Sentence: The firefighter arrived on time to the emergency call.
16. Breakfast: the first meal of the day especially when taken in the morning.
Sentence: I always eat pancakes when having breakfast.
17. Librarian: a specialist in the care or management of a library.
Sentence: The librarian knows where to find any book.
18. Hospital: an institution where the sick or injured are given medical or surgical care.
Sentence: I took my mother to the hospital because she was feeling sick.
19. Grocery: the food and supplies sold by a grocer.
Sentence: She stopped to pick up some groceries for supper.
20. Midnight: the middle of the night.
Sentence: My father arrived home at midnight.
21. Savanna: a temperate grassland with scattered trees (such as oaks).
Sentence: Elephants can be seen in the Savanna.
22. Museum: an institution devoted to the procurement, care, study, and display of
objects of lasting interest or value.
Sentence: Last vacation, we visited the American Museum of Natural History.
23. Laugh: to show emotion (such as mirth, joy, or scorn) with a chuckle or explosive
vocal sound.
Sentence: Emily has a funny laugh.
24. Grassland: An area dominated by grass or grasslike vegetation.
Sentence: Stunning pictures of the giraffes and zebras roaming the grasslands of
Africa
25. Forest: A dense uncultivated tract of trees and undergrowth, larger than woods.
Sentence: A fire destroyed acres of forest.
26. Ocean: the whole body of salt water that covers nearly three fourths of the surface of
the earth.
Sentence: The ocean covers most of our planet, regulates our weather and climate.
27. Drone: an uncrewed aircraft or ship guided by remote control or onboard computers.
Sentence: One team member launched a camera drone over the Third Pole.
28. Restaurant: a business establishment where meals or refreshments may be
purchased.
Sentence: We had dinner at the restaurant last night.
29. Brush: to pass lightly over or across : touch gently against in passing.
Sentence: I brush my teeth three times a day.
30. cousin: a child of one's uncle or aunt.
Sentences: My cousins are my uncles sons.
31. Notebook: a book for notes or memoranda.
Sentence: I left my science notebook at home.
32. Uncle: the brother of one's father or mother.
Sentence: My uncle is my mother’s brother.
33. Aunt: the sister of one's father or mother.
Sentence: My aunt is my father’s sister.
34. Classroom: a place where classes meet.
Sentence: The Classroom is a place to learn and socialize.
35. Elephant: a tall, large-eared mammal of tropical Africa.
Sentence: Elephants are bigger than horses.
36. Videogame: an electronic game in which players control images on a video screen.
Sentence: Charlie plays video games after school.
37. Rainbow : a multicolored array in the sky.
Sentence: A rainbow appeared after the storm.
38. Airplane: a machine with wings and an engine that can fly.
Sentence: The airplane landed at Paris Airport.
39. Basketball: a sport in which two teams of five players score points by shooting a ball
through a hoop.
Sentence: We play basketball after school.
40. Apartment: a room or set of rooms where people live in a large building.
Sentence: I live in a small apartment in London.
41. Bald: with no hair on the top of the head.
Sentence: My father is bald.
42. Behind: at the back of something or someone.
Sentence: The boy is behind the tree.
43. Bookstore: A place that sells books.
Sentence: I bought some books at the school bookstore.
44. Castle: an old building with towers and high stone walls to protect from attack.
Sentence: The castle was attacked by the enemy.
45. Catch: to grab hold of something that is moving.
Sentence: I catch the ball every single time.
46. Cloud: a white or gray mass of water droplets that floats in the sky.
Sentence: The sky is full of clouds today.
47. Earth: the planet we live on.
Sentence: Planet Earth is our only home.
48. Feed: to give a person or animal food.
Sentence: I feed my dog two times a day.
49. Family: your group of relatives, including your parents, brothers, sisters,
grandparents, uncles, aunts and cousins.
Sentence: We have a big and happy family.
50. Glasses: an instrument worn over the eyes to help people see better.
Sentence: I can’t see clear without my glasses.
51. Grape: a small round, green or purple fruit that grows in a bunch.
Sentence: Green grapes are my favorite fruit.
52. Gymnastics: a sport in which you do acrobatics on different pieces of equipment
and on the floor.
Sentence: I practice gymnastics after school every day.
53. Hopscotch: a game where players hop along numbered squares on the ground.
Sentence: we play hopscotch in the school playground.
54. Janitor: a person who looks after and cleans a building.
Sentence: The school janitor helps us to keep the classroom clean.

63. Penguin: a black and white marine bird that live in the southern oceans.

64. Protect: to keep someone or something safe from harm.
Sentence: We should protect the environment.
65. Environment: The natural world or ecosystem.
Sentence: We should protect the environment.
66. Puzzle: a toy or game that tests intelligence.
Sentence: I can’t finish the puzzle, it is too hard.
67. scarf: a piece of material worn around your neck to keep warm.
Sentence: My mother told me to wear a scarf to protect my throat.
68. Scooter: a child’s vehicle with two wheels that you stand on and push.
Sentence: My sister’s scooter is pink.
69. Sibling: a brother or sister.
Sentence: I have three siblings. One brother and two sisters.
70. Straight: in a line, with no curves or curls.
Sentence: My sister has long and straight hair.
71. Swimsuit: a piece of clothing you wear to go swimming.
Sentences: I left my swimsuit so I couldn’t swim in the pool.
72. Sweater: a piece of clothing that covers the torso and keeps you warm.
Sentence: I bought a new sweater for winter.
73. Throw: to propel something through the air with your hand.
Sentence: I throw the ball very far.

75. Nurse: a person who takes care of sick people.
Sentence: The school nurse helps sick students.
76. Loud: making a lot of sound.

Sentence: The Grand Canyon is a famous place to visit in the USA.
91. Vegetable: a usually herbaceous plant (such as the cabbage, bean, or potato)
grown for an edible part that is usually eaten as part of a mea.
Sentence: Vegetables are healthy food.
92. Desert: a very dry area, sometimes sandy, where it does not rain much and where
not many kinds of plants can grow.
Sentence: Deserts are dry places where plants can grow.
93. Diamond: a hard, usually transparent mineral that is found underground and used in
expensive jewelry.
Sentence: Diamonds are expensive stones.
94. Compass: an instrument that shows direction, with a needle that always points
north.
Sentence: The captain uses the compass to travel across the oceans.
95. Lettuce: a vegetable with large, thin, green leaves.
Sentence: I love lettuce in my sandwich.
96. Island: land with water all around it.
Sentence: An island is a piece of land all surrounded by water.
97. Mountain: a steep, high area of land, much higher than a hill.
Sentences: Mountains are beautiful places to visit.
98. Patient: someone who is under medical care or treatment.
Sentences: The doctor is treating a new patient.
99. Quickly: with a lot of speed.
Sentences: We finished the exam quickly.
100. Souvenir: something kept as a reminder of a person, place or event, especially a
vacation.
Sentence: My aunt gave me a souvenir from Paris.

  • 1. Spelling bee Words (1st – 3rd) 1. Sentence: The sky is full of clouds today. 47. Earth: the planet we live on. Sentence: Planet Earth is our only home. 48. Feed: to give a person or animal food. Sentence: I feed my dog two times a day. 49. Family: your group of relatives, including your parents, brothers, sisters, grandparents, uncles, aunts and cousins. Sentence: We have a big and happy family. 50. Glasses: an instrument worn over the eyes to help people see better. Sentence: I can’t see clear without my glasses. 51. Grape: a small round, green or purple fruit that grows in a bunch. Sentence: Green grapes are my favorite fruit. 52.
