Essay On Orchids
We all have seen orchid plants sold at our local supermarket or at Home Depot. Some of you may have received an orchid as a Mother's Day present
or other type of gift. Although the flowers are very beautiful and last much longer than other types of cut flowers or flowering plant, those orchids are
not fragrant.
The scientific name of the type of orchid typically sold in supermarkets and at Home Depot is Phalaenopsis. Its common name is the moth orchid. It is
popular because it is great for beginners and it blooms throughout the year. The moth orchid is just one of approximately, 30,000 different species
making it the largest family of plants in the world. All the orchids on this list produce fragrant flowers.
The idea that orchids are...show more content...

The leaves are long, thin leaves that are tubular in shape. The leaves grow up to a foot in length appear flat or unrolled. When in ideal lighting
conditions, this plant shows bright spots. Gradually increase light over a few days until these spots appear.

Water–Humidity: Allow the plant to dry out completely between watering.
Fertilize: Half–strength monthly when plant is actively growing.
Potting: Plant in a basket or mount this species. A course orchid mix containing fir bark. Another option is to use corks that add visual interest and
provide ideal drainage needs.
2. Cattleya Clarissa (Fanfare Gaiety) orchid
The tropical cattleya (CAT–lee–ah) is the flower used to make corsages. In the wild, this plant grows attached to trees (epiphytic) or rocks
(lithophytic). Cattleyas belong to one of two–species types, unifoliate (a single leaf) and bifoliate (a two leaf).
The plant grows a spindle–shaped part called a pseudobulb that will have either one or two leaves attached to it. The Cattleya Clarissa's flower is soft
lavender to medium that have heft. The fragrance of the Cattleya Clarissa is a scent of bright, fresh Arizona lemons around October.
The flower's color vibrancy intensifies in bright light and with maturity. Clusters of flowers approximate 5" stand tall

Careers: Florist Essay
I chose floral design for my career. A florist does a variety of things in a retail flower shop. The main thing is arranging flowers. They prepare
bouquets, corsages, funeral pieces, dried floral arrangements, and decorations for weddings, parties, and events. Depending on how much the owner
asks of them, some florists are in charge of ordering flowers, ribbon, giftware, and other hard goods. Some also do the bookkeeping.
I Chose this career because when I was little I used to go to Garden Gazebo and my Aunt Linda would give me scrap flowers to play with. Then
when my grandma bought it I would come up during the summer and watch the girls work. A year and a half ago I started working there. When I
started it was just bookkeeping, but I...show more content...
Being a florist gives you the freedom to work almost anywhere in the world. Every large city has lots of flower shops, even a small town like Fairbury
has two. Florists work inside in a work area, and sometimes on the selling floor. This job requires constant standing, which is one of the downsides.
Other than that the working conditions are ideal.
Chances for promotion in this job are slim. Entry level florists take orders and do some simple arranging. All it takes to move up to the next level is
practice. Watching and learning from a skilled florist is the key. Some shops also have a manager, this is another position for a skilled floral designer.
A florist works in two ways: alone and with others. The actual arranging is done alone. It takes a great deal of concentration and creativity to put
together a floral arrangement. Yet, they definatly need to be able to get along with other people. You never know what type of personality the person
who just walked in the door has. It takes a lot of patience, especially when it comes to working with that customer who is impossible to please.
I found a website where it will give you estimated salaries for a particular job in your town. A floral designer in Fairbury is estimated to make $36,622
a year. This means you can make anywhere from $30,000 to about $45,000 a year around this area. Most florists work a 40 hour week, and some are
required to work Saturdays. There is

Flowers For Algernon Essay
The story "Flowers for Algernon", by Daniel Keyes, that we read in English was about a mentally retarded person, named Charlie who
had an operation to increase his intelligence, but the operation was a failure and Charlie is slow again. He wants to move now so society won't
ridicule him for being slow again. Daniel Keyes wrote this short story for good reasons. Daniel Keyes wrote "Flowers for Angernon" to
show people from an outside look on how we treat mentally challenged people. When you treat people as you always do, you don't see how mean or
how cruel it really may be. It could just be your personality or the way you were brought up. By him writing a story on a mentally challenged person
wanting to become smart to...show more content...
Daniel Keyes point of view of improving intelligence by artificial means, is that he is against it. In the end he told through Charlie in an odd way that he
had wished he never would have had the operation because he now people will have seen how he was once mentally challenged, then became
smart and then became slower again. He was afraid that society wouldn't accept him. "I dont want Miss. Kinnian to feel sorry for me. Evry
body feels sorry at the factery and I dont want that eather so Im going someplace where nobody knows that Charlie Gordon was once a genus and
now he cant even reed a book or rite good." When Charlie went back to work he was confronted by a man who made a rude comment, but a
CO–worker who used to make fun of him and set him up to fail stuck up for him. But later Charlie said that he wishes to go to New York to get
away from everyone. That is where Daniel Keyes states that he wouldn't want the operation to be done. This is the statement Charlie made:
"...Im going someplace where nobody knows that Charlie Gordon was once a genus..." I think that where Daniel Keyes point was made
because if he (Charlie) had never had the operation, he wouldn't be trying to get away from society, he would have never known what being a
"genius" even meant. Daniel Keyes stated in the story, " It was evil when Eve listened to the snake and ate from the tree of
knowledge. It was evil when she saw
