AARP Florida Provides the Facts on Health Reform

Florida spokespeople available to dispel rumors, provide facts on what’s in
health-reform proposals – and what’s not

TALLAHASSEE — AARP, the nation’s largest organization working for older people, has
spokespeople available to help reporters drill down and find the facts about what health reform
proposals now before Congress will and won’t do.

WHO:
AARP Florida’s State Director, Lori Parham
AARP Florida’s Health Action Now Campaign Manager, Jeff Johnson

WHAT:
Parham and Johnson have extensively studied the health-reform legislation now before Congress.
Parham has led several public forums and is especially well equipped to comment on the facts
and the discussion.

WHEN and WHERE:
Parham and Johnson both are traveling the state speaking at health reform events throughout
August, but can be available most days for print or radio interviews. For television interviews,
please call the contact information at the top of this advisory and we will coordinate an
interview.
WHY:
Medicare beneficiaries already pay 30 percent of their average income on health care. Some
612,000 Floridians age 50-64 are un-insured. More than 3,500 Floridians are losing, or
dropping, health insurance every week. Congress in the midst of creating health reform
legislation to fix our broken system. Because they use health-care services often, Floridians age
50+ have more at stake than any other group of Americans.

                                          30 – 30 – 30
