People colonized other lands and peoples primarily to capture slaves and steal natural resources in order to become wealthy. For example, the Spanish colonized much of Latin America for these reasons, and today Latin Americans are of mixed European and Native American heritage. Similarly, the English colonized what is now the United States to steal land and resources, bringing African slaves rather than Native American slaves. As a result of colonization, colonized peoples adopted the colonizers' languages and religions, and globalization has since spread Western culture further.
