According to Asmat tradition, Fumeripits was the first being who created the first ceremonial house called a jeu and spent his days dancing alone on the beach. To cure his loneliness, Fumeripits chopped down trees and carved them into human figures which he placed in the jeu, but they remained inanimate. So Fumeripits created a drum by hollowing out a tree and covering it with lizard skin. When he played the drum, the figures came to life, unstuck their elbows from their knees, and began to dance - this is how Fumeripits made the first people from trees.
