This is the slide deck I used to give a talk at the Belgian Fronteers meetup at Microsoft Zaventem in 2012. The talk covered the personal lessons I learned while building a SAAS application.
Jonathan's presentation provided great examples of some awesome sites and design companies that are using ExpressionEngine. He then gave an excellent walkthrough of the features and power of this designer-friendly CMS.
The major takeaway from his presentation is that he and Nate are "not programmers" and that you don't have to be to learn and utilize ExpressionEngine. It is built to work within your code to add functionality and deliver content dynamically.

This hands-on session will introduce you to Bootstrap, a powerful HTML/CSS framework for developing responsive web sites. Learn how to leverage the various capabilities of this framework to quickly generate HTML prototypes.
Attendees will work through creating a basic consumer web site. We will look at the new layout framework introduced in Bootstrap 3, a variety of web components, and some basic CSS styling.
Don’t worry if writing HTML is outside your comfort zone, this session will take you from the basics to creating impressive web prototypes in no time.

But how to proceed? Using examples and lessons learned from a real-world case, I'll show you how to strangle the legacy application with a modern service architecture and build a continuous deployment pipeline to deliver value from the first sprint. On the way, we take a look at testing strategies and various (possibly controversial!) tips and best practices.

Effective Application Security in Software Delivery lifecycle using Deployment Firewall and DBOM
The modern software delivery process (or the CI/CD process) includes many tools, distributed teams, open-source code, and cloud platforms. Constant focus on speed to release software to market, along with the traditional slow and manual security checks has caused gaps in continuous security as an important piece in the software supply chain. Today organizations feel more susceptible to external and internal cyber threats due to the vast attack surface in their applications supply chain and the lack of end-to-end governance and risk management.
The software team must secure its software delivery process to avoid vulnerability and security breaches. This needs to be achieved with existing tool chains and without extensive rework of the delivery processes. This talk will present strategies and techniques for providing visibility into the true risk of the existing vulnerabilities, preventing the introduction of security issues in the software, resolving vulnerabilities in production environments quickly, and capturing the deployment bill of materials (DBOM).

Neuro-symbolic (NeSy) AI is on the rise. However, simply machine learning on just any symbolic structure is not sufficient to really harvest the gains of NeSy. These will only be gained when the symbolic structures have an actual semantics. I give an operational definition of semantics as “predictable inference”.
All of this illustrated with link prediction over knowledge graphs, but the argument is general.
