Asolar vehicle is an electric vehicle powered by atype of
renewable energy, by solar energy obtained from solarpanels
on the surface (generally, the roof) of the vehicle.
WHAT IS A SOLAR CAR
Solarenergysystem
SOLAR CAR CONSIST OF
SOLAR ARRAY
POWER TRACKERS
ELECTRIC MOTOR
SPEED CONTROLLER
CHASSIS
BATTERY
WHEEL
SOLAR CELL
Asolar cell converts solar energy to electrical energy. Photons insunlight provide
the energy that moves electrons from one layer of asemi- conducting metallic
wafer to another. Themovement of the electrons creates acurrent.
Solar cells are devices which convert solar energy directly into electricity. The
most common solar cells function by the photovoltaic effect. Photo- means
light and -voltaic meanselectrical current or electricity.
SOLAR ARRAY
Thesolar array is the vehicle's only source of power
during the cross-country Race.Thearray is made up
of many (often several hundred) photovoltaic solar
cells.
Solararray
Thepower produced by the solar array variesdepending
on the weather, the sun's position in the sky,and the
solar array itself. Onabright, sunny day at noon, agood
solar car solar array will produce well over 1000 watts
(1.3 hp) of power. Thepower from the array is used
either to power the electric motor or stored in the
battery pack for lateruse
POWER TRACKERS
power trackers condition the electricity coming from the
solar array to maximize the power and deliver it either to
the batteries for storage or to the motor controller for
propulsion. When the solar array is charging the batteries,
the power trackers help to protect the batteries from
being damaged by overcharging. The number of power
trackers used in a solar car varies with each team's
design.Power trackers can be very lightweight and
commonly reach efficiencies above95%.

SPEED CONTROLLER
Thepurpose of amotor speed controller is to takea
signal representing the demanded speed, and to
drive amotor at that speed. Thecontroller may or
may not actually measure the speed of themotor.
WHEEL
Solar car’s wheel type shows difference according to
the car’s type. So there is no standard in choosing
wheel selection. Thin wheels are always preferred for
the carspeed.
ADVANTAGES
Eco-friendly And Quiet
Energy Availability
No fuel costs
Driving comfort
DISADVANTAGES
Design challenge
Poor Practicality
Expensive Battery
Energy Storage capacity
APPLICATION
 This concept can be utilized to build a single sitter
four wheel vehicles in practice.
 It can be extended to more commercial form of four
wheeler vehicle.
 In industry where small vehicles are used to perform
light weight conveys work from one place to other
place.
 It can be used places where, fuel based vehicles are
banned due to production of pollution and noise
