Sojourner Truth endured many hardships and faced adversity with courage. She slept in harsh conditions without basic amenities for many years as a slave. Later in life, she continued to demonstrate bravery by speaking in front of angry mobs who could have attacked her and fighting for non-violence even when violence seemed imminent. At age 60, she went on a speaking tour which required courage to face bumpy roads and the risk of attacks on her carriage. She also helped a sick man during her first journey despite the risk of falling ill herself.
