Edmund Hillary was awarded for being the best climber in the world for his successful 1953 ascent of Mount Everest. Steve Roper and Chris Craggs placed second and third in the best climber award.
The dessert menu at the lodge included a large vanilla cake designed to look like Mount Everest, a healthy fruit and granola mix called "Mountain Medley", and a large hamburger called "Mount Hamburgerous" that would be too big for one person to finish.
After a long day of climbing, relaxing in the warm cabin living room with a hot drink and light snacks would allow one to rest and regain energy.
