Communication soft skills are the tools that we use to clearly and
effectively converse with others ,set expectations and work with
others on projects .Some of the most important soft skills are
communication based .Whether it is about writing a cover letter to
apply for a job .,taking up an issue with manager ,a new initiative at
work, we will need strong communication skills
COMMUNICATION
DEFINITION
A process by which two or more people exchange their
ideas ,facts thoughts, feelings ,common understanding of
meaning ,intent and use of message .
CHARACTERISTICS OF COMMUNICATION
Two or more persons : The first important characteristics of
communication is that there must be a minimum number of two
persons because no individual can have an exchange of ideas
with himself /herself. A listener is necessary to receive ones
ideas .Therefore there must be at least two persons .ie sender of
information and receiver .
Exchange of ideas :
Communication cannot be thought in the absence of
exchange of ideas .Inorder to complete the process of
communication there must be an exchange of ideas ,orders
,feelings etc .among two or more than two persons .
MUTUAL UNDERSTANDING
Mutual understanding means that the receiver should reive
the information in the same spirit with which it is being
given by the sender .In the process of communication ,it is
more important to understand the information rather than
carry it out .
Direct and indirect communication :
It is not necessary in communication that receiver and giver
of information should be face to face conversation ,while
indirect communication is through other means such as by
phone ,messages emails etc .
Continous process
Communication is an endless process as is the case with
business where the manager continuously assigns works to
his / her subordinates ,tries to know the progress of work
and gives directions .
Use of words as well as symbols :
There can be many means of communication like written ,oral
and symbolic .The examples of symbolic communication are
ringing of bell for closing a school or college saying something
by the movement of the neck ,showing anger or disapproval
through eyes and facial expressions ,giving some decision by
raising of a finger in cricket etc .

Sender
. The person who send the message is called as sender or
the person who initiates the conversation or sending
message ..It suggest the sender or source have feelings or
idea in the form that can be transmitted .
The second element of communication is the messenger
.Message consists of verbal or non verbal expression of
thoughts and feelings intended to convey information to
the receiver and require interpretation by the person
Channel
It is the method how the sender will deliver the message to
another person .It can be a telephonic conversation .It can
be face to face information given or it can be a written
message also all these are channels of communication .
Receiver
Receiver is the listener observe who interpret the message
based on his /her communication skills ,attitude ,knowledge
and socio cultural system .The correct interpretation of
message depends on socio cultural background ,knowledge
and experience of sender and receiver
FEED BACK
Feed back is the return behavior or response of the receiver
which means the message is understood by the receiver .
Feed back involves decoding .It means translating and
interpreting the message that was send to receiver
