The Kumhar are a caste group spread across India who traditionally work as potters. They claim descent from the Hindu god Prajapati Daksha. Kumhars live in 212 districts across states like Punjab, Haryana, Rajasthan, and make their living primarily through pottery, though many now also farm. They believe in Hindu gods like Shiva and practice local traditions. While some Kumhars still practice pottery and some export their goods, many have abandoned the occupation for farming or other work as their traditional livelihood has become difficult to maintain.
