INTRODUCTION
Child Abuse is a emotional, physical and sexual maltreatment. Child abuse is a worldwide
effect which affects every child in different types of ways. This SBA will show the causes,
effects and how to reduce child abuse in the community of Nonsuch. Not all children of the
community were given a questionnaire.

RATIONALE
The researcher selected this theme “Child Abuse” mainly because children are abused and
neglected daily in our society, this wide spread violence action will not only provide the
researcher with much needed information to complete this project, it will also enhance my
knowledge on this very serious action and how this violent action can be reduced.

METHOD OF INVESTIGATION
The method of investigation chosen to successfully complete this project was by means of
questionnaires. This method of collecting data has great advantages, as if can be done at the
accessibility of the persons required to have it completed;
Tools 1: It required little time to be completed.
Tools 2: It guarantees confidentiality since respondents are not required to attach their names

PROCEDURE USED TO COLLECT DATA
The community of Nonsuch in which the study was done, questions were used
to create a questionnaire. This questionnaire was typed and printed to a total of twenty (20)
copies. These questionnaires were issued on November 21,2018 to children of the ages 10 -18
years old who have been victims of child abuse.
Participants of this research were given one (1) to two (2) to complete their
questionnaire. All questionnaires were collected.

Fig1, in this representation 25% of the children experienced physical abuse, 15% experienced
sexual abuse while 20% experienced verbal abuse and 40% which the most experienced

Fig3, It can be seen that 25% are those who have been abused for 1 years, 20% for those who
have been abused for 2 years, 10% who have been abused for 3 and 4 years, 15% for those
who were abused for 5 years and 20% for over 5 years.

Fig5, 20% of the children told a police officer about their abuse while 25% of them told their
teachers, 5% told their guidance counsellor and majority of them which was 45% told their
friends about their abuse.

Fig7, it can be observed that 70% of the children got emotional scars, 15% got STD`s, 10%
got physicals scars and 5% got other effects.

THE TABLE BELOW SHOWS HOW TO REDUCE CHILD ABUSE IN
NONSUCH
Fig8, shows solutions to put an end or lower the level of child abuse in Nonsuch, 30% agrees
to be obedient to their parents, while 15% agrees to be honest with their parents but majority
of them which was 35% agrees that counselling should be given to both the abusers and
children.

It was observed that many children in the Nonsuch community experienced
Emotional Abuse and to put that to figure 40% was the results. 5-10yrs old (65%) were the
ages most of the children started to experience child abuse. Children have been victims for a
long time of period which they out grown when at the of an adult but as a result most of these
children have been experiencing child abuse for over 1 year (25%). Each responded have
been abused by different types of people whom they know but most have been abused by
his/her parents (50%).
Every child has told someone about their, according to Lena Buckley-Scott
“child victims are usually confused since the perpetrator of the abuse is often someone whom
they should love and trust”, this means it is hard to report the abuse, having said that most of
them told their friends (45%), In the questionnaire the researcher asked, “what are the causes
of your abuse?”. In this case there was an equal amount of the respondent’s choice (25%)
answered stress while (25%) answered that they were being disobedient. The children were
asked to give their effects of their abuse on the questionnaire, 70% answered Emotional scars.
It all came down to the final question to close the questionnaire which was ‘how
can the level of child abuse in Nonsuch can be reduced, according to Stephenson Brathwaite
“some parents believe that corporal punishment is acceptable and use it excessively”, this
means that many parents do not believe they are doing something wrong, despite this the
children of the Nonsuch community are 1000% sure that counselling given to the abuser will
definitely reduce the level of child abuse in Nonsuch and 35% agreed .
FINDINGS

During my research I have gain a lot of knowledge with which regards to child abuse in my
community of Nonsuch,
These are as follows:
 Most of the respondents said that the causes of their abuse were “stress”.
 Most of the children had emotional scars after their abuse.
 Most of the respondents believe that counselling will reduce the level of child
abuse in Nonsuch.
RECOMMENDATION
In the case of reducing child abuse in the community of Nonsuch, the researcher suggested

Counselling to be given to the Abuser to advise them about the effects and consequences of
Abusing a child. Instead of abusing a child and making their lives miserable, take away their
Privilege such as electronic phones, laptops, tablets or even keep them away from the televis-
on, taking away these things from them will not only make them feel guilty but they will see
how disappointing you are of their mistake. Another way to reduce the incidence of child ab-
use is that of being obedient. There are instances when children disobey their parents and this
results in them being abuse so obeying parents will lead to a reduction in children being abus
ed.
IMPLEMENTATIONS
To implement the following recommended solutions by the researcher the following are as
follows:

Get to know your child better. Spend some time with him/her; make the child feel
comfortable around you. This can make the child open up to you without a fear of
being unwanted and judged
Always show your child love. Tell them you love them. Ask him/her how their day
was; ask them their likes and dislikes
If you hear or see signs of child abuse don’t hesitate to contact the police or the Child
Development Agency
