This study analyzes social progress in West African countries using data from the Social Progress Imperative group. The Social Progress Index measures countries' performance on basic human needs, foundations of wellbeing, and opportunity based on indicators in these areas. The analysis finds that West African countries are underperforming on the Social Progress Index despite economic advantages. Specifically, West African nations ranked from developing to underdeveloped based on their Social Progress Index scores, with Ghana, Senegal, Benin, Burkina Faso, Togo, and Mali considered developing, and Liberia, Nigeria, Niger, and Guinea considered underdeveloped.
