Facebook was created in 2004 by Mark Zuckerberg and his Harvard classmates, originally for Harvard students but now open to those over 13. It allows sharing photos, statuses and videos with friends. Though it keeps users connected, it can be addictive and enable cyberbullying. YouTube was founded in 2005 by former PayPal employees for video and music sharing. Most videos are uploaded by individuals with accounts. While free and globally accessible, it struggles to protect copyrighted content. Instagram, a photo and video sharing mobile app launched in 2010, allows fast, easy sharing with filters and the ability to share posts across platforms, but some argue it reduces photography to filters and allows unauthorized advertising use of photos.
