Technology in the classroom
As technology begins to integrate into the classroom, the
freedom and dependency of using gadgets is growing rapidly.
More and more students bring their smartphones, tablets and
laptops into the classroom as tools for taking notes, finding
research and creating work for school

Social media
Using these gadgets, its difficult for teachers to monitor what
students are doing on the Internet
Social media plays a major role of what consumes the time of
students
Students become distracted when checking social media pages

Distractions
While social media can be very useful to deliver information to
mass amounts of receivers, often times students are using
these pages as opportunities to view friends and family
However personally, I think this article fails to recognize the
other side of using social media

Teaching students how to use social
media
If students are becoming more and more distracted, why not
work the use of social media into the curriculum?
I think students fail to understand the benefits of social media
because teachers do not show all the possibilities of its usage
I understand the article stated that some teachers let students
use their technology so they are self-regulating themselves and
their time

Integrate social media into
classrooms
Perhaps one solution to avoiding social media as a distraction
is to incorporate social media as part of the curriculum
If schools used Twitter as a source to send information out,
students will see this as an example of the alternative use for
these websites

Positive Social Media Examples
Rutgers University utilizes Twitter as a place for students to receive quick, important
information

This high school uses Twitter to
create a community both online and
in school. It features faculty and
students together which shows
positivity. It also posts quotes there
show positive outlooks on life.

Conclusion
If social media is inevitably about to enter the classroom, I think
it is important to begin structuring these sites into the
curriculum.
There are many ways this could occur, the creativity and
possibilities are endless!
