DEFINING SOCIAL ISSUE
A social issue or problem is any condition or behavior that has negative consequences for
large numbers of people (in a community or society) and that is generally recognized as a
condition or behavior that needs to be addressed.
It is actually a condition in which some people are deprived of some basic social rights
like-
Human right to work, the right to an adequate standard of living, including food, clothing,
and housing, the right to physical and mental health, the right to social security,
the right to a healthy environment, and the right to education.
Major Social
Problems are-
Population Explosion
Illiteracy
Child Labour
Female Feticide
Infanticide Poverty
Sexual abuse
Malnutrition
Dowry
Corruption
Alcoholism
Terrorism…etc
Racial – Discrimination
on basis of color .
Financial -
Discrimination on basis
of income/money.
Based on caste -
Discrimination on basis
of caste.
Religion -
Discrimination on basis
of Region
Gender – Sometimes
girls are treated
unequally in terms of
getting jobs.
Status of Education- On
basis of how much a
person has
studied discrimination
also is done.
There are different types of discriminations prevalent in our society-
DISCRIMINATION
• The unjust or prejudicial treatment
of different categories of people,
especially on the grounds of race,
age, sex, or disability is called
discrimination.
• Discrimination literally means
treating someone differently than
others (in a bad way).
EXCEPT THESE MAJOR TYPES THERE ARE ALSO OTHER TYPES OF
DISCRIMINATIONS(ON DIFFERENT LEVELS)-
• Except these major types there are also other types of discriminations(on different levels)-
• Based on height- Shorter ones are mostly dominated by taller ones in almost all fields.
• Weight – Being fat or very thin sometimes results in not getting a job.(such as in movies)
• Appearance- How one looks overall is thought as what he/she can do in life.
• Physical condition(fit, fat , Handicapped etc.)- A handicapped or a blind of 1 eye or both is usually
seen not treated equally with the rest of the world. Even if they are capable of doing a particular work
, they are not provided with the opportunity to do so.
Types of Discriminations faced in the society-
SOLUTION

EFFECTIVE WAY TO TACKLE
DISCRIMINATION
• Embed Values like Love, Care, Affection towards all living beings in
this Universe. And not just embed but also express these in your
Behaviour as well as in Actions.
• Education also plays an important role, although we see
discrimination among educated ones too, on the contrary education
is a strong way to tackle discrimination and as education will increase
among people surely discrimination would decrease to an extent.
• Spread awareness about this among people.
CHILD LABOUR
• The term “child labour” is often defined as work that
deprives children of their childhood, their potential and
their dignity, and that is harmful to physical and mental
development. It refers to work that is mentally,
physically, socially or morally dangerous and harmful
to children and interferes with their
schooling by depriving them of the opportunity to
attend school, obliging them to leave school
prematurely or requiring them to attempt to combine
school attendance with excessively long and heavy
work.
• So basically when a child is not able to enjoy his/her
childhood
and is in turn entitled to do work to support his/her
family and he/she is doing work that disturbs schooling
is termed child labour .
DIFFERENCES IN A NORMAL CHILDHOOD AND
‘’CHILDHOOD WITH WORK’’
Normal Childhood Childhood with Work
WHY IS
CHILD
LABOUR
CAUSED?
Poverty
Illiteracy
Condition/ Situation which causes a child to work
Increase of Unemployment
Greed of people
CHILD LABOUR IN INDIA AND
ACROSS THE WORLD
India accounts for the second highest
number where child labour in the world is
concerned.
Africa accounts for the highest number of
children employed and exploited. The fact
is that across the length and breadth of the
nation, children are in a pathetic condition.
CHILD LABOUR (PROHIBITION AND REGULATION)
ACT, 1986
• This act prohibits the employment of children in certain occupations and jobs( Which are
Hazardious in nature)
MEASURES TO CONTROL CHILD LABOUR
• Sending more and more children to school.
• Laws should be strict and should be implemented properly in order to ensure that no child is forced to
work.
• More and more government schemes and facilities for people who live below standard living conditions
should be made so that children would not need to work to support their families.
• Help the ones who are either disaster affected or suffered from some disease.
• Most important of all is to discourage child labour if seen somewhere and spread awareness among our
society.
POVERTY
• Poverty is a condition of an individual in which his
income is so low that he is unable to feed or provide
shelter for himself and his family members. Those
who do have such income are called poor.
• It is basically a situation in which ones doesn't have
enough of money to provide basic facilities like health,
water, food and many other necessities of life to their
family members and hence they are termed as "Being
Poor".
WHY DO PEOPLE BECOME POOR???
Caste System
Social ,Religious, Economic and Political Causes
Regional Disparity
Lack of Education
Disease, Natural disasters
Failure of business
Unemployment
Slow Economic growth
COMPARISON ON POVERTY LEVELS
Poverty reduction in India
Poverty increase in Africa
Status of poverty in the US
HOW CAN SUCH BIG ISSUE LIKE
POVERTY BE TACKLED
 Government programmes and schemes can play a very
crucial role in reducing poverty in our country. But most
important of all is implementing these programmes properly.
 Employment should be provided to all and be paid properly.
 Mutual understanding, Humanity (like donating used clothes,
books to needy) will surely help people come out of poverty.
 Literacy rate must increase to get more job opportunities.
 More and more jobs should be created to provide
employment and new and better fields and new and fresh
opportunities should be made available to eradicate poverty
from the whole of earth.
HOW CAN ALL THESE ISSUES BE
TACKLED ACROSS WHOLE WORLD ?
• (1) Feeling that we can control the issue and it can be corrected,
• ( 2) Determination to correct the situation,
• (3) Confidence in the people and a belief that there is no limit to progress because
of their intelligence and efforts,
• (4) The use of technological and rational knowledge and skill for correcting the
situation , and
• (5) Awareness and literacy among people must increase.
Each and every problem has a solution and this problem also has-
Some of the ways of managing social issues prevalent in our society are-
The number of social issues
is just endless but we know
that they can decrease if we
all decide to defeat them all
together with lots of love
for everyone in this world.
CONCLUSION
As we can see that social issues have a very devastating
on the whole of world so now
LETS ALL JOIN HANDS TO FIGHT
AGAINST ALL THE SOCIAL ISSUES
FACED BY OUR SOCIETY
