me a chance to work under poles apart commercial and working environment wherein each
region has their own challenges and strengths.
Guwahati – Assam: (On-Going Project)
Under the vision of the Group Logistics Head, single handedly spearheading the company’s
foray into movement of raw materials and finished products by mode of Inland Waterways in
the North East region of the country. Commencing movement of cargo in the mighty
Brahmaputra River which is also the declared National Waterway – 2 of India by Union
Ministry of Shipping.
Making use of the highly cost efficient mode of riverine transport in the state of Assam to
overcome natural barriers such as hilly terrain in the field of logistics and also support the
industry by batting and dodging high road freight rates and lack of availability of trucks in
NE India.
1. Building a long term business plan for riverine transport in NE India.
2. Costing and Simulation of 1 month pilot run on paper before commencement of
operations.
3. Liaisoning and discussions with top management of Inland Waterways Authority of
India which comes under the direct purview of National Shipping Board and Union
Ministry of Shipping.
4. Identifying and shortlisting of best suited River-sea vessel for operations.
5. Recognizing various market clusters/handling points along the Brahmaputra to carry
out loading/unloading operations.
6. Involved with operations scaling from first mile up till last mile destination.
7. Responsible for successfully drawing and execution of this one of its kind project and
initiative to move cargo by the Brahmaputra.
Chennai – Tamil Nadu:
Based out of Chennai, my responsibility was to streamline and optimize the supply chain of
the export orders of the company amounting to approx. 20,000 metric tons per month to
various markets such as Sri Lanka, Maldives, Myanmar, Middle East and African continent.
1. Identifying and locking down on various cost effective and efficient ports in South
India based on distance/lead time and concept of Total Delivery Cost from the
company’s manufacturing units in Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh and Karnataka.
2. Responsible for liaisoning and negotiating with various vendors in the export
business category such as Custom House Agents, Container freight station
operators/owners, Freight forwarders, Liners and their agents so as to avail a better
rate for their services and garner maximum quantum of savings for the company and
increase profitability of export business.
3. Dealing with Indian Railways and Container Corporation of India to avail services of
container trains and normal cargo trains for movement of export materials to various
ports in South India.
4. Engaging with various road transportation providers in order to facilitate movement
of cargo to CFS/Ports by road at an optimized cost.
5. Preparation and verification of various export documentation to claim various
incentives.
6. Co - ordination with various government/statutory bodies to streamline export
business.
7. Ensuring co-ordination between factory and sales department in order to meet
customer requirements and provide the desired service.
Kochi – Kerala:
1. Carry out analytics for cost and spent analysis, logistics model and route analysis to
use best logistics solution for each logistics zone and to deliver cement with least
handling and supreme impact on NCR based on the concept of Total Delivery Cost
(TDC) for 7 districts in South Kerala.
2. Co- ordination with manufacturing unit in Dalmiapuram (Tamil Nadu) for dispatches.
3. Depot/Warehouse Management. Mapping of the logistics strategies of the company
and locking down on most cost and time efficient location for warehouses/depots.
Downsizing of under-utilized warehouses so as to operate at minimum operational
cost and maintain minimum stock levels and replenishment levels as per the plan of
sales team.
4. Attending CFA meetings in Kochi and report to management in Chennai HO.
5. Market analysis based on competitor depot rents, handling rates and operations.
6. Selecting of best logistics route for Road vs. Rail.
7. Exploring option of feasibility of export to Middle East and African Continent from
Port of Kochi.
8. Regular co-ordination with CFA so as to streamline operations in south Kerala.
