BlueLight is a company that aims to improve emergency response by routing 911 calls from smartphones to the closest responders using more accurate location data and sharing additional caller information. It is currently deployed on over 250 college and corporate campuses where it has been routing emergency calls and providing responders with data like the caller's location, identity, health conditions, and real-time location. The company seeks to modernize the 911 system, which was developed in the 1970s for landlines, and eventually enable its technology across other digital platforms to help save an estimated 10,000 lives lost annually due to slower emergency response from cell phone calls.
