The Retaliation Juggernaut: Why Retaliation Risk is Everywhere & What You Sho...NAVEX Global
Retaliation continues to be the most common claim filed with the EEOC – a trend that is unlikely to change if the past twelve years of rising claims are any indication. Recently-enacted provisions of the U.S. Dodd-Frank Act increase protections for whistleblowers and raise the penalties for retaliation against them. However, employers are still struggling to understand the basic components of retaliation and often silo these complaints in the compliance or legal department without seeking HR input.
Andrew Foose, Vice President, Advisory Services, NAVEX Global and Greg Keating, Partner, Littler, provide an overview of the latest whistleblower protection laws, recent cases that have changed the breadth and scope of retaliation and end with practical strategies to mitigate skyrocketing whistleblower and retaliation risk.
Artificial Intelligence (AI) is doing a very good job and continues to provide many benefits to our modern world, but with good, inevitably negative consequences. The sooner we start to think about what they are, the better prepared we can be to reduce and manage the risks.
Every company with Protected Health Information (“PHI”) is expected to regularly engage in a risk analysis and other compliance activities related to HIPAA . Since 2009, over 60,000 breaches have been reported, and 800 have been identified to affect 500 or more individuals. Not surprisingly, over half of the reported incidents were caused by the loss or theft of a laptop or other mobile device. 46% of corporate laptops and 35% of smartphones contain sensitive data. 113 smartphones are lost every minute in the U.S.

Whistle blowing is an act aimed at unveiling or exposing gross misdeed associated with services rendered in public or private institutions. These acts which constitutes diverse dimensions of crimes popularly referred to as corruption has obviously eaten deep into the fabrics of virtually every sector of our economy including university education system. It is pathetic but frankly to remark that this imbroglio characterizing the society has remained unabated due to absence of secure reporting line. Hence, the development of Whistle-Blowing System with secure electronic avenue for reporting every act or conduct that contradicts and compromises ethical provisions. It creates seamless link to enroll prospective whistle-blowers, accepts documented reports with verifiable evidence, allows communication with investigators, protects whistle-blower’s identity and interfaces them for due rewards. The system development process adopted the object-oriented methodology with its tools such as use-case diagram, sequence diagram and flowcharts. Implementation protocol utilized a combination of Javascript/php/HTML at the front-end while MySQL was engaged at the back-end for appropriate data documentation. It is suited with enormous prospects for assisting management trap down most of the sharp practices and inconsequentialities inherent in most Nigerian universities by accepting user identity, the reports and processes same to specifications.
Is artificial intelligence the future tool for anti corruption GlobalTechCouncil
The World Bank report suggests that the amount of goods and services that governments purchase to discharge their official business is a staggering $10 trillion per year – and is estimated at 10 to 25 percent of global GDP. Unless an effective public scrutiny mechanism is not in place, there are high chances of the money being lost to corruption.

In the wake of mass automation, UBIs might be the answer low-income families and citizens might be looking towards. As automation across industries increases, the induced fear within citizens of its impact is severe. From privacy concerns through rogue AI to doomsday scenarios to more realistic concerns of misused AI and loss of jobs, pop-culture led paranoia has shaken up the world. These concerns have to be dealt with, and tech companies and businesses need to have a robust moral framework under which decisions are made, to ensure any negative externalities of implementing AI are mitigated to the maximum degree. Artificial Intelligence is a great tool to optimize businesses and make our world more efficient, but the moral imperative on all of us is to ensure it happens sides by side human sustainability, not at its expense.
HOW artificial intelligence WILL CHANGE WORK?
During a talk at Northwestern College, computer based intelligence master Kai-Fu Lee supported computer based intelligence innovation and its impending effect while likewise taking note of its aftereffects and limits. Of the previous, he cautioned:
"The last 90%, particularly the last 50% of the world as far as pay or instruction, will be gravely harmed with work removal … The basic inquiry to pose is, 'The manner by which routine is a task?' And that is the way reasonable [it is] a task will be supplanted by man-made intelligence, since simulated intelligence can, inside the normal undertaking, figure out how to improve itself. Furthermore, the more quantitative, the more genuine the occupation is — isolating things into containers, washing dishes, picking leafy foods client support calls — those are a lot of prearranged errands that are dreary and routine in nature. In the question of five, 10 or 15 years, they will be uprooted by simulated intelligence."
In the stockrooms of online monster and computer based intelligence stalwart Amazon, which buzz with in excess of 100,000 robots, picking and pressing capabilities are as yet performed by people — yet that will change.
Lee's perspective was reverberated by Infosys president Mohit Joshi, who told the New York Times, "Individuals are hoping to accomplish extremely large numbers. Prior they had gradual, five to 10 percent objectives in diminishing their labor force. Presently they're saying, 'For what reason mightn't we at any point do it with one percent of individuals we have?'"
On a more perky note, Lee focused on that the present simulated intelligence is pointless in two huge ways: it has no imagination and no limit with regards to sympathy or love. Rather, it's "an instrument to intensify human innovativeness." His answer? Those with occupations that include redundant or routine errands should acquire new abilities so as not to be left by the wayside. Amazon even

Legal Risks and Preventive Measures in ChatGPT Applications in Chinaijtsrd
On November 30, 2022, the American artificial intelligence company OpenAI released the large language model ChatGPT. ChatGPT, as an AI language model, is not only capable of interacting with humans but can also write articles, develop strategies, create poetry, and even write code and check for vulnerabilities. However, along with its capabilities, there are also legal risks associated with the application of ChatGPT, making it important for us to research and consider how to properly prevent these risks. The main research focus of this project is on ChatGPTs ethical responsibilities, the relationship and order of human machine coexistence, the protection of individual safety, and the governance of ChatGPT by both the nation and society. Through our research, we aim to maximize the convenience that ChatGPT offers us and effectively mitigate its potential risks. The algorithms that are already changing your life By.Dr.Mahboob ali khan PhdHealthcare consultant
It is hoped that AI will relieve some of the pressure on busy hospitals by diagnosing disease and recommending treatment options quickly and efficiently.Medicine is primed to be a chief beneficiary of artificial intelligence. AI can diagnose diseases from telltale groups of symptoms, strange patterns in blood tests, and the subtle abnormalities that cells display as a disease begins takes hold. Time and again, AI systems are found to pick up signs of illness that are unknown to doctors, making the AIs more accurate as a result.

2024.06.01 Introducing a competency framework for languag learning materials ...Sandy Millin
http://sandymillin.wordpress.com/iateflwebinar2024
Published classroom materials form the basis of syllabuses, drive teacher professional development, and have a potentially huge influence on learners, teachers and education systems. All teachers also create their own materials, whether a few sentences on a blackboard, a highly-structured fully-realised online course, or anything in between. Despite this, the knowledge and skills needed to create effective language learning materials are rarely part of teacher training, and are mostly learnt by trial and error.
Knowledge and skills frameworks, generally called competency frameworks, for ELT teachers, trainers and managers have existed for a few years now. However, until I created one for my MA dissertation, there wasn’t one drawing together what we need to know and do to be able to effectively produce language learning materials.
This webinar will introduce you to my framework, highlighting the key competencies I identified from my research. It will also show how anybody involved in language teaching (any language, not just English!), teacher training, managing schools or developing language learning materials can benefit from using the framework.

Embracing GenAI - A Strategic ImperativePeter Windle
Artificial Intelligence (AI) technologies such as Generative AI, Image Generators and Large Language Models have had a dramatic impact on teaching, learning and assessment over the past 18 months. The most immediate threat AI posed was to Academic Integrity with Higher Education Institutes (HEIs) focusing their efforts on combating the use of GenAI in assessment. Guidelines were developed for staff and students, policies put in place too. Innovative educators have forged paths in the use of Generative AI for teaching, learning and assessments leading to pockets of transformation springing up across HEIs, often with little or no top-down guidance, support or direction.
This Gasta posits a strategic approach to integrating AI into HEIs to prepare staff, students and the curriculum for an evolving world and workplace. We will highlight the advantages of working with these technologies beyond the realm of teaching, learning and assessment by considering prompt engineering skills, industry impact, curriculum changes, and the need for staff upskilling. In contrast, not engaging strategically with Generative AI poses risks, including falling behind peers, missed opportunities and failing to ensure our graduates remain employable. The rapid evolution of AI technologies necessitates a proactive and strategic approach if we are to remain relevant.
