The UK government published an updated Smart Meters Programme Delivery Plan in May 2013. The plan extended the timeline for the mass rollout of smart meters in Great Britain based on feedback from bidders and the energy industry. Suppliers would now be ready to start the full-scale rollout by autumn 2015, with the end of mass rollout moved to end of 2020 instead of end 2019. This was to allow more time for design, build and testing of systems required. An updated high-level view of the delivery plan would be published later in 2013 to reflect this timeline extension and other changes as the program shifted to implementation.
