Yet, we are born helpless and have to be cared,
nurtured, to be inculcated with discipline, taught and
developed by a Murabbi’ (EDUCATOR) – the first of
whom are our PARENTS.

And [mention] when your Lord took from the children
of Adam - from their loins - their descendants and
made them testify of themselves, [saying to them],
"Am I not your Lord?"
They said, "Yes, we have testified."
[This] - lest you should say on the day of
Resurrection, "Indeed, we were of this unaware."
(Qur’an: A’raf: 7: 172)

REMINDER FROM PREVIOUS LESSONS

Mankind is called
similar to the word

(insaan) – a word whose roots is
(nis-yaan; nasiy) – meaning

“forgetfulness; to forget”.

Prophets came to ‘remind’; and thus the Qur’an is also named as
“

“ (Adz-Dzikr) meaning -‘the Reminder’

Islam asserts that mankind, naturally has a pure instinct
(fitrah saleema) to know of God’s existence.

All Rights Reserved © Zhulkeflee Hj Ismail (2013)
REMINDER FROM PREVIOUS LESSONS

The ability to perceive the existence of a Supreme Being (God) is
innate in human nature (

Fitrah), and it is this instinctive

cognition that explains why in every culture there is a term referring
to the Supernatural Divine - God.
In this verse we are told that, spiritually, our soul has already
testified to Allah’s Lordship prior to our physical sojourn on this
earth. Thus it is the Arabic term for “man” has that meaning “to
forget”, and messengers were sent but to be (MUDZAKKIR) the ones
to give “reminders” (DZIKR) to man, as well as the “Warner”
(NADZEERA) regarding the consequence for heedlessness of this
Reality.

REMINDER FROM PREVIOUS LESSONS

Prophet Muhammad’ s.a.a.w. said :

“Every child is born in a state of pure innocence ( FITRAH),
It is the parents then who would make him to become
a Jew or a Christian or a Pagan.”
(Hadith reported by Bukhary)

REMINDER FROM PREVIOUS LESSONS

Thus Islam view humankind positively, free of blame or sins, left in
the care of parents. Each one of us are said to be upon the pure and
innocent nature of submission (“Islam”), but may be nurtured to
become otherwise.
Even if they veered into a deviant path, he still can or is expected
to continuously seek and return to the path of Truth and reformation.
Although he is not compelled because of his freewill, yet his innate
potentials are to be developed and actualised towards knowing the
truth. Those who are aware but reject truth is thus guilty of “KUFR”
“concealing; covering up; rejecting truth; or being
ungrateful; ”

And those who know the Truth are to invite all with reasoning
and wisdom, appealing to their innate volition towards recognizing
the higher Reality and purpose, transcending this temporary
earthly existence. It is never hopeless.

“CONSIDER the flight of time! Verily, man is bound to
lose himself unless he be of those who attain to faith,
and do good works, and enjoin upon one another

Islam’s message is the message of Mercy and Allah’s
Forgiveness, and we must never despair in inviting all fellow man to
Allah’s way.

“CALL THOU (all mankind] unto thy Sustainer's path with wisdom
and goodly exhortation, and argue with them in the most kindly
manner- for, behold, thy Sustainer knows best as to who strays from
His path, and best knows He as to who are the right-guided.”

destruction (as punishment ) upon his oppressors (Quraysh) :

(i.e. commit shirk) to Him. ”

When we enter into Islam, the “Shahaadahtain” constitute the
re-affirmation (reconnection) with our primordial (spiritual) bond
with our Creator Sustainer.
This bond is in-fact our “self-actualizing” which re-orientate and
align our aim and purpose of life upon a single TAUHEEDIC paradigm
: life of service and servitude to the One God through submission
and obedience, following His Last Messenger Muhammad s.a.a.w..

Let not the strutting about of the Unbelievers through the land
deceive thee (seemingly able to do as they please on earth):

shall have gardens through which running waters flow, therein to

is best for the truly virtuous.”

Faith without obedience is meaningless; and obedience without Faith is
mere rituals and may even lead to hypocrisy.
Together, Faith and Obedience must lead to Righteousness with IHSAN
which essentially focus in our intention to sincerely serve Allah s.w.t.
Thus, in these three aspects can one be said to be true in his submission
to the Will of Allah (as Muslim).

ADHERE TO CORRECT AQEEDAH REGARDING WHO ALLAH S.W.T. IS :

A Muslim strictly believes that Allah is One and does not
worship nor regard any other to be god except Allah, nor does
he ascribe to others those attributes which are Absolute
attributes and prerogatives of Allah Alone, who is Unique with
no partners nor associates.
To worship or regard others to be equal or as sharing in
divinity with Allah – is a grave sin termed "SHIRK "

ADHERE TO CORRECT AQEEDAH REGARDING WHO ALLAH S.W.T. IS :

The sin of "SHIRK “ is in the ‘belief’ not merely the outward
action. It is only “SHIRK” when a person:
[1] regards other being or entity in creation to be also Divine; or
[2] that they have a share in Divinity with Allah in His exclusive
aspects; or
[3] they are regarded to being independent of Allah.

 There are verses in the Qur’an which refers to Allah using
metaphorical or allegorical verses (aayat mutashaabihat).
 Majority of the Salaf generation all understood these and would
simply accept it without interpretation leaving this to Allah (Tafwidw),
because all of them understood and would negate and reject any literal)
interpretation of them by the anthropomorphist (mujasima ).
 In later times, scholars had to guide Muslims from falling into
anthropomorphism, by clarifying these verses through “ta’wil ” .
 This approach “ta’wil ” (interpreting those allegorical verses) is in fact
necessary and is consistent with what Allah s.w.t. had clarified.

REMINDER FROM PREVIOUSLESSONS And [mention] when your Lord took from the children of Adam - from their loins - their descendants and made them testify of themselves, [saying to them], "Am I not your Lord?" They said, "Yes, we have testified." [This] - lest you should say on the day of Resurrection, "Indeed, we were of this unaware." (Qur’an: A’raf: 7: 172) All Rights Reserved © Zhulkeflee Hj Ismail (2013)
  • 19.
REMINDER FROM PREVIOUSLESSONS Mankind is called similar to the word (insaan) – a word whose roots is (nis-yaan; nasiy) – meaning “forgetfulness; to forget”. Prophets came to ‘remind’; and thus the Qur’an is also named as “ “ (Adz-Dzikr) meaning -‘the Reminder’ Islam asserts that mankind, naturally has a pure instinct (fitrah saleema) to know of God’s existence. All Rights Reserved © Zhulkeflee Hj Ismail (2013)
  • 20.
REMINDER FROM PREVIOUSLESSONS The ability to perceive the existence of a Supreme Being (God) is innate in human nature ( Fitrah), and it is this instinctive cognition that explains why in every culture there is a term referring to the Supernatural Divine - God. In this verse we are told that, spiritually, our soul has already testified to Allah’s Lordship prior to our physical sojourn on this earth. Thus it is the Arabic term for “man” has that meaning “to forget”, and messengers were sent but to be (MUDZAKKIR) the ones to give “reminders” (DZIKR) to man, as well as the “Warner” (NADZEERA) regarding the consequence for heedlessness of this Reality. All Rights Reserved © Zhulkeflee Hj Ismail (2013)
  • 21.
REMINDER FROM PREVIOUSLESSONS Prophet Muhammad’ s.a.a.w. said : “Every child is born in a state of pure innocence ( FITRAH), It is the parents then who would make him to become a Jew or a Christian or a Pagan.” (Hadith reported by Bukhary) All Rights Reserved © Zhulkeflee Hj Ismail (2013)
  • 22.
REMINDER FROM PREVIOUSLESSONS Thus Islam view humankind positively, free of blame or sins, left in the care of parents. Each one of us are said to be upon the pure and innocent nature of submission (“Islam”), but may be nurtured to become otherwise. Even if they veered into a deviant path, he still can or is expected to continuously seek and return to the path of Truth and reformation. Although he is not compelled because of his freewill, yet his innate potentials are to be developed and actualised towards knowing the truth. Those who are aware but reject truth is thus guilty of “KUFR” “concealing; covering up; rejecting truth; or being ungrateful; ” All Rights Reserved © Zhulkeflee Hj Ismail (2013)

REMINDER FROM PREVIOUSLESSONS And those who know the Truth are to invite all with reasoning and wisdom, appealing to their innate volition towards recognizing the higher Reality and purpose, transcending this temporary earthly existence. It is never hopeless. “CONSIDER the flight of time! Verily, man is bound to lose himself unless he be of those who attain to faith, and do good works, and enjoin upon one another the keeping to truth, and enjoin upon one another patience in adversity.” (Qur’an: al-’Asr: 103: 1-3) All Rights Reserved © Zhulkeflee Hj Ismail (2013)

REMINDER FROM PREVIOUSLESSONS Islam’s message is the message of Mercy and Allah’s Forgiveness, and we must never despair in inviting all fellow man to Allah’s way. “CALL THOU (all mankind] unto thy Sustainer's path with wisdom and goodly exhortation, and argue with them in the most kindly manner- for, behold, thy Sustainer knows best as to who strays from His path, and best knows He as to who are the right-guided.” (Qur’an: an-Nahlu: 16: 125) All Rights Reserved © Zhulkeflee Hj Ismail (2013)

REMINDER FROM PREVIOUSLESSONS Prophet Muhammad’s reaction to suggestion for him invoke destruction (as punishment ) upon his oppressors (Quraysh) : “No (don’t destroy them) ! But my hope is that Allah will bring forth from their descendents, people who worship Allah Alone, and do not set up partners (i.e. commit shirk) to Him. ” All Rights Reserved © Zhulkeflee Hj Ismail (2013)
  • 27.
REMINDER FROM PREVIOUSLESSONS When we enter into Islam, the “Shahaadahtain” constitute the re-affirmation (reconnection) with our primordial (spiritual) bond with our Creator Sustainer. This bond is in-fact our “self-actualizing” which re-orientate and align our aim and purpose of life upon a single TAUHEEDIC paradigm : life of service and servitude to the One God through submission and obedience, following His Last Messenger Muhammad s.a.a.w.. ADHERE TO CORRECTAQEEDAH REGARDING WHO ALLAH S.W.T. To worship or regard others to be equal or as sharing in divinity with Allah – is a grave sin termed "SHIRK " All Rights Reserved © Zhulkeflee Hj Ismail (2013)

But those in whose hearts is perversity follow the part thereof that is allegorical (” Aayat mutashaabihat” not of well-established meaning). Seeking discord and searching for its interpretation, but no one knows its true meanings except Allah, and those who are firmly grounded in knowledge say: "We believe in it; the whole of it is from our Lord"; and none will grasp the Message except men of understanding.“ (Qur'an: Aali 'Imran: 3: 7) All Rights Reserved © Zhulkeflee Hj Ismail (2013)

 There areverses in the Qur’an which refers to Allah using metaphorical or allegorical verses (aayat mutashaabihat).  Majority of the Salaf generation all understood these and would simply accept it without interpretation leaving this to Allah (Tafwidw), because all of them understood and would negate and reject any literal) interpretation of them by the anthropomorphist (mujasima ).  In later times, scholars had to guide Muslims from falling into anthropomorphism, by clarifying these verses through “ta’wil ” .  This approach “ta’wil ” (interpreting those allegorical verses) is in fact necessary and is consistent with what Allah s.w.t. had clarified.
