Access to Memory is a web-based open source application for standards based description and access. AtoM was first released in 2008 and much of the codebase is now relying on deprecated frameworks and libraries – and at the same time, new standards and technologies are changing how our profession approaches description and access. Currently Artefactual Systems, a Canadian based company, uses a services model to support the project. Artefactual is looking ahead to AtoM3, and considering building a linked data driven platform for archival description and access. As we consider AtoM's next generation, we are also examining governance and maintenance models to sustain the project and better empower our user community as Artefactual wasn't originally intended to be AtoM's organizational home. This presentation will offer some thoughts on existing open source project governance models, challenges, and possibilities for the future. Abstract:
In a microservice world, things become more complex. Platforms such as Kubernetes address a lot of the complexity; they handle resource isolation and utilization, networking, and deployments nicely. But a lot of the involved complexity such as load balancing, rollout scenarios, circuit breaking, retries, rate limiting, observability, tracing and transport security is still left up to the development teams.
Of course, you can address all of these challenges in your microservices programmatically using popular open-source components such as Hystrix, Ribbon, Eureka, the EFK Stack, Prometheus or Jaeger. But, unfortunately, this approach can quickly lead to excessive library bloat and suddenly your microservices are not quite so micro anymore.
All this might seem acceptable if you’re on a single, consistent development stack like Java EE or Spring Boot. But tackling these complexities becomes even more challenging if you’re dealing with multiple stacks and multiple frameworks, to say nothing about dealing with legacy applications that you can’t modify to retrofit these requirements.
In comes Istio to the rescue. It is a so-called service mesh that addresses many of the cross-cutting communication concerns in a microservice architecture. Think of Istio as AOP (aspect-oriented programming) for microservice communication. Instead of implementing everything directly within your services, Istio transparently injects and decorates the desired concerns into the individual communication channels.
Mario-Leander Reimer offers an overview of Istio and explains how it addresses the inherent complexities in microservice architectures. He briefly discusses the conceptual architecture and the main building blocks of Istio before diving into several examples deployed on a live Kubernetes cluster to demonstrate the different traffic management features, as well as diagnosability and security.

A web-based, general-purpose simulation and modeling tool is presented in this paper. The
tool, Insight Maker, has been designed to make modeling and simulation accessible to a
wider audience of users. Insight Maker integrates three general modeling approaches –
System Dynamics, Agent-Based Modeling, and imperative programming – in a unified
modeling framework. The environment provides a graphical model construction interface
that is implemented purely in client-side code that runs on users’ machines. Advanced fea-
tures, such as model scripting and an optimization tool, are also described. Insight Maker,
under development for several years, has gained significant adoption with currently more
than 20,000 registered users. In addition to detailing the tool and its guiding philosophy,
this first paper on Insight Maker describes lessons learned from the development of a com-
plex web-based simulation and modeling tool.

1. Introduction
The field of modeling and simulation tools is diverse and emergent. General-purpose modeling tools (e.g. MATLAB’s
Simulink or the Modelica language [1]) sit beside highly focused and domain-specific applications (e.g. [2] for modeling
network control systems, [3] for simulating the behavior of wireless network routing protocols, or [4] for the simulation
and control of turbines). Interest in and published works on such tools has grown over time. The ISI Web of Knowledge
reports a substantial growth in papers published on modeling or simulation tools with 299 such papers published in the span
of 1985–1989, 1482 published from 1995 to 1999, and 3727 published from 2005 to 2009.1

Abstract:
In a microservice world, things become more complex. Platforms such as Kubernetes address a lot of the complexity; they handle resource isolation and utilization, networking, and deployments nicely. But a lot of the involved complexity such as load balancing, rollout scenarios, circuit breaking, retries, rate limiting, observability, tracing and transport security is still left up to the development teams.
Of course, you can address all of these challenges in your microservices programmatically using popular open-source components such as Hystrix, Ribbon, Eureka, the EFK Stack, Prometheus or Jaeger. But, unfortunately, this approach can quickly lead to excessive library bloat and suddenly your microservices are not quite so micro anymore.
All this might seem acceptable if you’re on a single, consistent development stack like Java EE or Spring Boot. But tackling these complexities becomes even more challenging if you’re dealing with multiple stacks and multiple frameworks, to say nothing about dealing with legacy applications that you can’t modify to retrofit these requirements.
In comes Istio to the rescue. It is a so-called service mesh that addresses many of the cross-cutting communication concerns in a microservice architecture. Think of Istio as AOP (aspect-oriented programming) for microservice communication. Instead of implementing everything directly within your services, Istio transparently injects and decorates the desired concerns into the individual communication channels.
Mario-Leander Reimer offers an overview of Istio and explains how it addresses the inherent complexities in microservice architectures. He briefly discusses the conceptual architecture and the main building blocks of Istio before diving into several examples deployed on a live Kubernetes cluster to demonstrate the different traffic management features, as well as diagnosability and security.
Fog Computing
This document discusses fog computing, including its need, the OpenFog Consortium, and the OpenFog reference architecture. Fog computing distributes computing and storage closer to users along the cloud-to-thing continuum to address issues with cloud like high latency, costs, and security. The OpenFog Consortium aims to standardize fog computing through an open reference architecture. The architecture has three views - software, system, and node - to satisfy fog deployments. Potential use cases include smart cars, buildings, and video surveillance. Advantages of fog computing include real-time processing, privacy, and costs savings compared to cloud.
Yii Framework Security

Hexacopter k ucopter
This document describes the design and development of a hexa-copter (six rotor drone) called the KU-COPTER for environmental research applications. It discusses how the design of the hexa-copter frame was based on the logo of Kathmandu University, and various materials for the frame like aluminum composite panel and PVC foam were considered through simulations to optimize strength and weight. A web-based, general-purpose simulation and modeling tool is presented in this paper. The
tool, Insight Maker, has been designed to make modeling and simulation accessible to a
wider audience of users. Insight Maker integrates three general modeling approaches –
System Dynamics, Agent-Based Modeling, and imperative programming – in a unified
modeling framework. The environment provides a graphical model construction interface
that is implemented purely in client-side code that runs on users’ machines. Advanced fea-
tures, such as model scripting and an optimization tool, are also described. Insight Maker,
under development for several years, has gained significant adoption with currently more
than 20,000 registered users. In addition to detailing the tool and its guiding philosophy,
this first paper on Insight Maker describes lessons learned from the development of a com-
plex web-based simulation and modeling tool.

1. Introduction
The field of modeling and simulation tools is diverse and emergent. General-purpose modeling tools (e.g. MATLAB’s
Simulink or the Modelica language [1]) sit beside highly focused and domain-specific applications (e.g. [2] for modeling
network control systems, [3] for simulating the behavior of wireless network routing protocols, or [4] for the simulation
and control of turbines). Interest in and published works on such tools has grown over time. The ISI Web of Knowledge
reports a substantial growth in papers published on modeling or simulation tools with 299 such papers published in the span
of 1985–1989, 1482 published from 1995 to 1999, and 3727 published from 2005 to 2009.1

zkStudyClub - Reef: Fast Succinct Non-Interactive Zero-Knowledge Regex Proofs
This paper presents Reef, a system for generating publicly verifiable succinct non-interactive zero-knowledge proofs that a committed document matches or does not match a regular expression. We describe applications such as proving the strength of passwords, the provenance of email despite redactions, the validity of oblivious DNS queries, and the existence of mutations in DNA. Reef supports the Perl Compatible Regular Expression syntax, including wildcards, alternation, ranges, capture groups, Kleene star, negations, and lookarounds. Reef introduces a new type of automata, Skipping Alternating Finite Automata (SAFA), that skips irrelevant parts of a document when producing proofs without undermining soundness, and instantiates SAFA with a lookup argument. Our experimental evaluation confirms that Reef can generate proofs for documents with 32M characters; the proofs are small and cheap to verify (under a second).
