Josh McDowell was seeking meaning, purpose, happiness and freedom in life. He explored religion, education and prestige but did not find what he was looking for. He was intrigued by a group of Christian students who seemed different. They challenged him to examine the evidence for Christianity intellectually. Through his research, McDowell concluded that the New Testament documents were historically reliable and that the resurrection of Jesus was well-established. However, becoming a Christian challenged his ego and will. After much struggle, on December 19, 1959 McDowell prayed to accept Jesus Christ as his savior and lord, though he initially felt sick to his stomach with doubt about his decision.
