Roadmap for CCS Demonstration and Deployment for the People's Republic of China
Deploying CCS in developing countries is critically important. The International Energy Agency estimates that to achieve global emissions reduction targets 70% of CCS projects will be in non-OECD countries by 2050.
Achieving deep decarbonisation of the heavily coal-based energy system of the People’s Republic of China (PRC) while maintaining gross domestic product growth at an acceptable rate, requires additional efforts beyond strengthening energy efficiency and the further introduction of renewable energy. CCS is an essential low-carbon option for the PRC. It is currently the only near-commercial system of technologies that offers medium to long term opportunities to make very deep cuts in carbon dioxide emissions from industrial processes and power plants based on coal (and other fossil fuels), while enabling the continued utilisation of coal in a low carbon way for such major applications.
The Roadmap assesses the potential, the barriers and challenges in developing CCS in the PRC and recommends necessary policy actions during the 13th Five-Year Plan and the medium term to facilitate CCS demonstration and deployment.

Governance SIG autumn conference 1-10-15
The APM Governance SIG (specific interest group) will hold their Autumn Conference on 1st October in London.
The theme of the conference is ‘Achieving change successfully: Why good governance matters’. A host of senior representatives from major organisations are confirmed to speak and explore the impact of good governance practice on the management and successful delivery of projects, programmes and portfolios (P3M).
The conference will be of primary interest to directors and senior managers who are in a position to influence organisational and P3M governance strategies as well as senior P3M professionals.

We now know from APM research in to The Conditions for Project Success that Governance is the key factor in project outcomes, with 'effective governance' being stated as one of the major findings.
Projects must have clear reporting lines and regular communications between all parties; other recent research supports this finding.
Good governance is not primarily the responsibility of project managers – it’s the sponsors, senior managers and executives that sit at the apex of governance in organisations that have most impact on project outcomes. Hence we need to change our focus for improvement.
