We would like to invite you to our morning Seminar on 13 July 2018. The seminar will focus on the landscape over the coming year for international investors in assessing and investing in opportunities in the Energy Sector in Western, Central and Eastern Europe. Our speakers will focus on the opportunities arising in renewable energy and network projects.

1. The seminar will focus on the landscape over the coming year for international
investors in assessing and investing in opportunities in the Energy Sector in Western,
Central and Eastern Europe. Our speakers will focus on the opportunities arising in
renewable energy and network projects.
With major initiatives such as the Belt & Road driving inbound investment into Europe,
and the recent visit of UK Prime Minister to China during which deals worth more than
£9.3 billion were announced, and the seminar will put special emphasis on the issues
for Chinese investments into Europe.
Grant Thornton’s aim is to bridge between investors and projects responding to Belt
& Road Initiative and to share the experience and challenge of dealing with far east
investors and showcase some of the success cases from the past.
In addition to the speakers, there will be a number of other invited guests contributing
on a range of topics on the themes of the drivers for investment in European Energy
and Asian investment into Europe’s energy sector.

Munir Hassan
Partner | Head of Clean Energy CMS UK
Munir is a partner in the Energy Utilities team and is Head of Clean Energy at CMS in London, helping to
determine the Firm’s strategy on renewables, carbon capture and emissions trading matters as well as advising
more broadly across the electricity sector. Over the past seventeen years, Munir has advised on independent
power projects, renewables projects and transactions, market reform, regulatory and commercial arrangements,
MA transactions, sector restructurings, fuel supply arrangements, PPAs, price-regulated energy networks,
regional trading arrangements and wholesale/retail supply issues and has drafted or advised on power sector
legislation, contracts, licences, rules and codes in a number of jurisdictions.
Munir advises on all aspects of electricity power generation, particularly in the renewables sector, including the
securing of the project opportunity (whether merchant or government procured), permitting, dealing with the
challenges of a constantly changing commercial and regulatory environment on a national and international
level, the commercial arrangements for projects, the subsidy arrangements, the project contracts and
construction arrangements. The team provides the sectoral expertise on MA transactions, project financings
and disputes. Munir is the editor of “Wind: Projects Transactions” and also of the forthcoming “Power: A
Practical Handbook”, both published by Globe Law Publishing.

3. Mike Read
Head of Energy and Environment | Grant Thornton UK
Mike specialises in providing financial and commercial advice, as well as fundraising for energy and
environmental infrastructure contracts in the UK and internationally. His client base covers procuring authorities,
contractors and funders; he also provides strategic advice and other support to governmental bodies.
Mike’s background includes being a mining engineer as well as an accountant, and he completed his first energy
Public Private Partnership (PPP) contract in 2001 in the UK. Since then, he has led or is leading more than 30
municipal energy and environment projects both in the UK and internationally. Mike also provides support around
commercial fundraisings and MA activity in the waste and energy sectors.
Outside of transactions, he managed the high-profile evaluation of the roll-out of the Electricity Market Reform
policy, undertaken jointly by Grant Thornton and Poyry on behalf of the Department of Energy and Climate
Change 2015 – present Minister Counsellor of Chinese Embassy.

Tom Wang is a dynamic and ambitious entrepreneur with over 10 years consulting experience in international
cross-border business investment which covered wide range sectors including Foreign Trade, Foreign Direct

Wise graduated from Beijing University and worked in Siemens as Key Account Manager, where he mainly
dealt with state-owned energy and nature resources enterprises. He has more than 12 years overseas project
experience with contracts value over 1 billion US dollars. Wise is the creator of ‘Industry C2C’ module, strategic
partnership with major players in China energy sector, such as ChinaPower, China Datang, Znshine Solar etc.
