This report frames the physical and organisational context for precinct action and identifies potential programs and government solutions that may be applied to better streamline the realisation of precinct-scale action to progress towards zero energy (and carbon) ready residential buildings within both new and existing precincts.
The report was developed based on a literature review and engagement with more than 80 stakeholders from industry, academia and government with the aim of identifying appropriate government action in the form of proposed solutions that may be applicable across Commonwealth, state and territory and/ or local governments.
The report has given focus to opportunities for precincts that are not already considered in the Trajectory to ensure that a wider system response is taken to considering the zero energy (and carbon) ready outcomes being sought.

The guide will also help community groups to develop
sound business proposals which may assist to
raise project funds, obtain approvals and apply for
grant funding.
The guide is an initiative of the Renewable Energy
Roadmap, which includes many initiatives to support
community renewable energy and reduce barriers to
distributed generation, such as solar power. It also
complements clean energy grants already committed
by the Victorian Government to pioneering community
energy projects at Newstead and Woodend.

FFTF Network Progress Report 2015
The Fit for the Future Network aims to make organizations more sustainable by sharing best practices. In 2015, the network worked with 988 environmental practitioners from 106 organizations, collectively saving over 14,000 tonnes of CO2. Members generated 5.5% of their energy from renewables and implemented 358 renewable projects. Looking ahead, the network will focus on making events more accessible, addressing challenges from subsidy removal, improving members' energy monitoring, and taking a more holistic approach to sustainability issues beyond just energy.

- 3. Community led energy projects will be essential if Scotland is to reach it„s 2020 energy targets.
- 4. SCENE – a social enterprise focused on community energy – was started by three students from the University of Edinburgh.
- 5. We offered SCENE advice, office space and critical funding to help them get their business off the ground.
- 6. But most importantly, SCENE needed help making connections with enterprises and funders who could help them turn their ideas into real projects.
- 7. SCENE now produces some of the most in-depth and insightful reports on community energy in the UK.
- 8. And they have created and run “SCENE Connect” – the most comprehensive database of community renewable energy projects ever created.

- 11. We need to smarter policy to help Scotland reach it‟s 2020 energy goals.
- 12. We collaborated with the ClimateXChange to produce a report that provides evidence of the social factors that influence the success of community energy projects.
- 13. ClimateXChange is a collaborative initiative between sixteen of Scotland‟s leading research and higher education institutions undertaking work the transition to a low carbon economy.
- 14. We used our network of business and government leaders to help ClimateXChange conduct a wide array of interviews and deep research.
- 15. Our report provides critical insight for local councils, the Scottish Government and community groups wishing to pursue renewable energy projects.
- 16. This research will be pivotal in creating smart national policy that supports a scale up of community energy projects.
- 18. building capacity for climate action in China
- 19. China is also one of the fastest growing economies. It is also the world‟s biggest emitter of carbon.
- 20. China understands the opportunity of being a low carbon leader, which is why our low carbon learning programme had such great appeal.
- 21. We delivered a two-week programme that brought senior Chinese Government officials together with academic experts, policy-makers, businesses leaders and investors.
- 22. This programme strengthened UK relations with senior representatives from the NRDC – fostering an ongoing dialogue around creating a low carbon future between the UK and China.
- 23. Delivering training and education to equip private and public sector leaders with the skills required to succeed in the low carbon economy will help us create a cleaner, better, more prosperous world for all.
