This document outlines the schedule and requirements for the SIO 110: Introduction to GIS and GPS for Scientists course during the Winter Quarter of 2009. The course will cover fundamental GIS concepts like georeferencing, projections, data models and spatial analysis. Students will complete individual projects involving GPS data collection and analysis in ArcGIS. Assessment includes a midterm, final presentation and project, lab work, an ESRI certification, and book reports. The course is taught through lectures, labs using ArcGIS software, field work and guest lectures.
