Sinbad finds himself alone on a small island after being swept away in a barrel. He sees a large bird called a Roc flying towards him and realizes it is coming to protect its egg. Some of the riddles describe things that are small like a nut but can move without feet, things that fly without wings and make sound without a mouth, and formations of soldier-like shapes without heads or feet dressed in red. Other riddles describe things with a round hat and red face sought in autumn with a basket and stick, things with a heart but no liver and skin but no flesh loved in old age but ignored in youth, and things that are sometimes white and others black and always round.

The document poses questions to encourage learning more about these different modes of transportation.
Though Sinbad had become wealthy after his first voyage, he grew restless on land and set sail again. His ship docked at an uninhabited island where he was accidentally left behind after falling asleep. On the island, he discovered the egg of a giant roc bird and strapped himself to its leg in an attempt to escape. However, he found himself in a valley filled with huge snakes. Running low on provisions, Sinbad devised a plan to collect diamonds from the valley and strap himself to meat thrown by merchants, hoping to be carried to safety by eagles taking the meat to their nests. His plan succeeded and he was rescued, thanking the merchants with diamonds before joining them on their journey home, where

The Chief Controller meets with Indira and Craig, who want permission to leave their underground city (Warren Number 5) and live on the surface of the Earth. They explain that life in the overcrowded Warren is miserable and not natural for humans. However, the Chief Controller says humans must remain underground for hundreds of years until the sun becomes less dangerous after a global war destroyed the surface long ago. Indira and Craig believe they can find a safe way to live on the surface if given a chance, but the Chief Controller says that is impossible and it is better not to know the truth about what life could be like above ground.

The King of Serendib is happy
to see Sinbad again.
‘Stay here!’ he says to Sinbad.
‘And tell me more about the
wise Caliph of Baghdad.’
‘I’m sorry,’ says Sinbad. ‘I must
go back to Baghdad now. I’m

Sinbad begins to go home.

some of the sailors from the ship.
Quickly, Sinbad gets into a little
boat and rows away.
Sinbad finds a cave. He can hear a
noise. ‘Someone’s crying,’ he thinks.
He looks into the cave and sees a
young woman. In front of her, there’s
a monster. It is sleeping.
‘She’s the monster’s prisoner,’
thinks Sinbad. ‘I must help her.’
Sinbad lands on an island. He
leaves his boat on the beach, and
goes to explore.
Later, the monster leaves to look
for something to eat. Sinbad
goes into the cave.
‘Who are you?’ asks the woman.

Sinbad and Yasmin
climb up to the ship.
‘Sinbad!’ the sailors
cry. ‘You’re alive!’
‘Of course,’ says
Sinbad. ‘And this is
