The weekly real estate market report for the Des Moines area shows that as of September 28, 2012, there were 4,447 homes on the market, down from 5,457 the previous year. There were 1,554 homes under contract, up from 1,315 last year. For the week, 166 homes sales closed with 6,835 homes closing year-to-date, 1,137 more than in 2011.

- For the week ending September 28, 2012, the Des Moines Area Association of Realtors have 4,447 homes currently for sale. The number of homes for sale is down by over 1,000 from the same time last year when inventory levels were around 5,400. 298 new listings were taken this past week and the average list price of a home on the market today is $204,819. The highest price listing currently for sale in our market is 3.5 million dollars and is located in the South of Grand neighborhood of Des Moines.
- The price range with the most inventory is the $100 to $200 thousand price range with 1,768 homes currently for sale almost 1,000 homes for sale under $100 thousand dollars.
- Homes under contract in our market are also known as Pending sales. As this week ended, there were 1,554 Pendings in the Multiple Listing Service. We are over 200 Pendings ahead of the same time last year. 156 Offers were accepted during the last 7 days with an average list price of all Pendings today coming in at just over $181,000.
- Of the 156 Pending sales, 61 were between $100 and $200 thousand giving you the best odds of selling your home if it is listed in the $100 to $200 thousand dollar price range.
- 166 homes closed this week bringing our year to date total up to 6,835. We continue to be over 1,100 sales ahead of 2011 year to date business and our average sale price remains higher as well at $174,900.
