Los alumnos de 6to grado estuvieron trabajando con Miss Fabi en History sobre las distintas civilizaciones de la antigüedad. A través de la rutina STEP INSIDE, los chicos tuvieron como consigna “step inside”, es decir, situarse en distintos acontecimientos o personajes históricos y crear historietas (comics) que los hicieran verse más cercanos y concretos. De esta manera, se logró que los chicos abran sus mentes a nuevas perspectivas de los distintos hechos históricos.

"Two 18th century portraits that have been on display since the 1920s in the Hingham Historical Society’s house museum, the Old Ordinary, have now been attributed to an enslaved African American artist. Prince Demah‘s short life was eventful and included painting lessons in London, a brief commercial career in Boston, and service in an artillery regiment during the Revolution. The one other known painting by Prince (now in New York’s Metropolitan Museum of Art) was found in a family collection in Worcester County, and we know that Prince made other portraits, both as a copyist and painting from life. History Camp will be a great place to spread the news about this previously unknown artist: our area’s small museums and historical societies are the logical place to look for more of his works."

Inzetten op sociale innovatie kan potentieel een bijdrage leveren aan het verbeteren van de armoedesituatie, maar de diepere vraag is of het ook structurele problemen kan verhelpen. Misschien draagt het wel bij tot de bestendiging van armoede. Welke factoren maken zoal het verschil?
Tuur Ghys is medewerker bij het onderzoekscentrum OASeS, en werkt in opdracht van het Vlaams armoedesteunpunt rond dit thema.

Heel wat burgers in onze samenleving engageren zich, nemen initiatief en zetten zich vanuit hun persoonlijke overtuiging met hart en ziel in. Van vele van deze burgerinitiatieven gaat een enorme kracht uit. Meer nog, deze initiatieven hebben vaak een ‘innoverende’ kracht. Toch blijven sommige burgerinitiatieven onder de radar: ze zijn niet zichtbaar, hebben niet voldoende slagkracht of komen moeilijk en zelfs nooit van de grond.
Tijdens deze workshop staan we stil bij innoverende burgerinitiatieven en gaan we in op onze rol als sociaal-cultureel werker/organisatie bij het ondersteunen en versterken ervan. Hoe kan je eigenaarschap van burgers stimuleren, welke fysieke en mentale ruimtes nodigen uit tot initiatief, hoe verbind je mensen zonder ze onmiddellijk te binden, hoe versterk je de slagkracht van initiatieven… ? Deze vragen vormen enkele van de uitdagingen waar we concreet mee aan de slag gaan.

De term crisis roept bij velen een gevoel van onbehagen op. Crisissen worden liever vermeden. Veranderingen gaan vaak gepaard met weerstand, die zich kan uiten in afkeer, agressie of depressie. Maar crisis kan ook een aanzet geven tot beweging, tot het zoeken naar creatieve oplossingen, naar nieuwe samenlevingsverbanden, nieuwe paradigma’s, theorieën en ideologieën.
Wanneer men merkt dat de bakens moeten worden verzet, kan een crisis de aanzet geven tot vernieuwing. In de leefwereld van mensen (kleine of sociale wereld) zien wij mooie initiatieven waarvan de uitgangspunten de grote wereld een spiegel kunnen voorhouden en een samenlevingsperspectief bieden.
Raf Daenen is mede-auteur van het boek Perspectief op een maatschappij in crisis en docent aan de Fontys Hogeschool Sociale Studies in Nederland.

Sociaal-culturele methodiek
Het gedeeld begrip van personen die sociaal-cultureel handelen werd en wordt regelmatig onderzoeksmatig in kaart gebracht. Dit leidde tot het theoretisch concept van de sociaal-culturele methodiek. Dit concept reikt de bakens aan voor het sociaal-cultureel handelen (Wat is het wel? Wat is het niet?). De sociaal-culturele methodiek kan en wordt op verschillende wijzen in praktijk gebracht. Op conceptueel vlak kunnen we spreken van “de” sociaal-culturele methodiek. Op het vlak van de praktijken en beleidsmatig spreken we over het hanteren van “een” sociaal-culturele methodiek.

Hoe draag je als organisatie zorg voor een innovatieproces? Maatschappelijk innoveren veronderstelt een zekere mate van ‘naar buiten’ gericht zijn, maar hoe begin je daaraan? Hoe vind je geschikte partners voor een diepgaand partnerschap?

‘Een goed concept past op een bierkaartje’. Onder dat motto lanceerde Stramien in 2012 het idee ‘Uit de ban van de Ring’, voor de reorganisatie en de overkapping van de hele Antwerpse Ring. Ringland staat voor betere mobiliteit, gezondere omgeving en meer ruimte. Op drie jaar tijd groeide dit burgerinitiatief tot een hele beweging met een stevige achterban, verschillende haalbaarheidsstudies, twee festivals en een eigen lied op hun rekening.
Sven Augusteyns, woordvoerder van de organisatie, vertelt je over de weg die Ringland ondertussen heeft bewandeld.

Removing Uninteresting Bytes in Software Fuzzing
Imagine a world where software fuzzing, the process of mutating bytes in test seeds to uncover hidden and erroneous program behaviors, becomes faster and more effective. A lot depends on the initial seeds, which can significantly dictate the trajectory of a fuzzing campaign, particularly in terms of how long it takes to uncover interesting behaviour in your code. We introduce DIAR, a technique designed to speedup fuzzing campaigns by pinpointing and eliminating those uninteresting bytes in the seeds. Picture this: instead of wasting valuable resources on meaningless mutations in large, bloated seeds, DIAR removes the unnecessary bytes, streamlining the entire process.
In this work, we equipped AFL, a popular fuzzer, with DIAR and examined two critical Linux libraries -- Libxml's xmllint, a tool for parsing xml documents, and Binutil's readelf, an essential debugging and security analysis command-line tool used to display detailed information about ELF (Executable and Linkable Format). Our preliminary results show that AFL+DIAR does not only discover new paths more quickly but also achieves higher coverage overall. This work thus showcases how starting with lean and optimized seeds can lead to faster, more comprehensive fuzzing campaigns -- and DIAR helps you find such seeds.

The modern software delivery process (or the CI/CD process) includes many tools, distributed teams, open-source code, and cloud platforms. Constant focus on speed to release software to market, along with the traditional slow and manual security checks has caused gaps in continuous security as an important piece in the software supply chain. Today organizations feel more susceptible to external and internal cyber threats due to the vast attack surface in their applications supply chain and the lack of end-to-end governance and risk management.
The software team must secure its software delivery process to avoid vulnerability and security breaches. This needs to be achieved with existing tool chains and without extensive rework of the delivery processes. This talk will present strategies and techniques for providing visibility into the true risk of the existing vulnerabilities, preventing the introduction of security issues in the software, resolving vulnerabilities in production environments quickly, and capturing the deployment bill of materials (DBOM).

As machine learning integrates deeper into human-computer interactions, the concept of epistemic interaction emerges, aiming to refine these interactions to enhance system adaptability. This approach encourages minor, intentional adjustments in user behaviour to enrich the data available for system learning. This paper introduces epistemic interaction within the context of human-system communication, illustrating how deliberate interaction design can improve system understanding and adaptation. Through concrete examples, we demonstrate the potential of epistemic interaction to significantly advance human-computer interaction by leveraging intuitive human communication strategies to inform system design and functionality, offering a novel pathway for enriching user-system engagements.
