Detective Sergeant
Led large team of Detectives and Support Staff investigating all aspects of serious and major crime 2004 – 2016
• Investigating Officer tasked with overseeing all aspects of numerous homicide and serious
crime enquiries including scene liaison and preparation of files for submission to the Crown
Prosecution Service in order to make decision as to whether judicial proceedings should be
instigated.
• Fully accredited (SCAIDIP) specialist in Child Protection and Interviewing, and the investigation
of child death. Led multi agency teams tasked with investigating serious cases of child abuse
and the prosecution of offenders in very sensitive family based environments.
• Provide daily investigation plans and strategic reviews for investigators and the preparation of
detailed and comprehensive reports to various agencies including Crown Court, Magistrates
Court, Partner Agencies, Senior Managers and the Judiciary.
• Oversaw the conduct of extensive intelligence gathering processes including the use of covert
and sensitive strategies. Ensured legal compliance and proportionality and the safety and
welfare issues associated with covert deployment of operatives.
• Responsible for managing a large team with responsibility for welfare, training, discipline and
financial management of a budget in excess of £100k
2. Detective Constable 1999- 2004
Individual responsibility for leading complex criminal investigations and leading multi-agency initiatives to prevent and
detect crime.
• Had the individual responsibility for investigating numerous serious crimes including murder,
manslaughter, arson, attempted murder, firearms crime and fraud. Prepared case files for
presentation in Magistrates and Crown Court and guided and supported less experienced staff
in all aspects of criminal investigation.
• Specialised in tackling the illegal use and supply of controlled drugs in a challenging inner city
environment. Working on a multi-agency basis with other partners headed project which
focused on the emerging problems associated with crack cocaine and initiated a pro-active
response which reduced the availability of the drug and provided support to users.
• Daily dealings with members of the public to manage reports of crime, enquiries, complaints
and sensitive information. Developed very strong communication skills and had responsibility
for prioritising the allocation of work based on competing demands and availability of
resources.
