Anzac Day is important because it celebrates the unity of Australian and New Zealand forces in World War I during the Gallipoli campaign, which left a legacy known as the "Anzac legend" that has shaped the identity of both nations. On Anzac Day we remember the sacrifice of those who died during military operations. However, some feel Australians have taken ANZAC Day too far by excessively commercializing it and exaggerating comparisons like equating football matches to war, which disrespects the meaning and memory of those who fought.
