Shriram Group was founded in 1974 when R. Thyagarajan started a chit fund business to help his friend A.V.S Raja leave his job with the railways. In 1979, Shriram Transport Finance Ltd was started to help musician L. Jayaraman. The three founders - Thyagarajan, Raja, and Jayaraman - are considered the "Three Musketeers" who ventured into these businesses. The group's vision is to support people who are entrepreneurial and help them start their own businesses. They follow a unique management philosophy of empowering employees and decentralizing decision making. The group is not involved in any businesses directly but supports entrepreneurs through companies
