The Master program is focused on developing the design research skills in the
context of new forms of practice within architecture and urbanism, ranging from
large-scale environments to tectonic details and material properties. It is a mul-
tidisciplinary approach, considering architecture as a transversal field, for which
it is imperative to integrate all research and applications with the knowledge from
the specialization.
Peripatetic Concatenation with Edouard Cabay
Form finding project using multiple parameters and heat on acrylic. The pattern
of melting is used to integrate with research for design of green house.
Software use - Grasshopper Kangaroo simulations
Self-adaptive Membrane with Areti Markopoulou, Alexandre Dubor, Carlos Bausa
Self-adaptive membrane is a material research on shape memory alloys to in-
novate passive strategies of amplifying solar gain to actuate Nitinol resulting in
autonomous linear motion in an assembly of joints. The passively controlled dis-
placement of shape memory alloys is used to design kinetic architectural solu-
tions.
Designing Associativity with Luis Fraguada
Assignments focused on advancing the knowledge of Grasshopper 3d in concert
with Rhinoceros.
_Data visualization techniques
_Evolutionary algorithms and how they can be used to evolve a design
_Stalking yourself to create geolocation maps
_Designing basic animation games (Unity 3D)
Grasshopper Puglins used - Geco, Weaverbird, Kangaroo, Mesh Edit, Mesh Tools,
Shortest Walk, GH Python, Elk, gHowl, Heliotrope, Firefly, Galapagos.
Physical Computing with Guillem Camprodon
Connecting the virtual world with physical world. Construction of wooden instru-
ment facade using solenoid installed in a system connected to Arduino uno using
censors, coding, understanding electrical circuit.
Computational Tools - Arduino Uno, Touch OSC mobile software.
Construction with Alexandre Dubor
Understanding joiners and construction details with different materials like
woods, metals, fabrics, plastics.
Machines used - Laser Cutter, 3-Axis Milling Machine, 3D Printing, Wood hard-
ware, Vacuum press.
