CECAM-IRL is an Irish node of an international consortium that uses particle-based computer simulation to study diverse fields like spintronics, advanced materials, and nanobiology. It brings together Irish researchers in this area and connects them to European partners. Through workshops and tutorials, it aims to increase the impact of Irish simulation research, enhance training, and provide guidance to experimentalists. The goals within specific institutions include mesoscale astrophysics simulations at DIAS, large-scale computing at ICHEC, and applications in areas like electron transport, materials development, and thin films at QUB, TCD, Tyndall-UCC, and UCD.

Irish Based Scientists using atomistic, molecular and mesoscale computer
simulation in diverse fields from spintronics & advanced materials to nanobiology & fibril diseases such as alzeimers.
Co-operating (and competing) for over 15 years- united by our passion for the
use of particle based computer simulation of nature on real problems.
Now working through CECAM-IE
the Irish node of most recognized,
authoritative and pioneering International Consortium in this area involving 16
sister nodes across Europe and Israel funded by some 20 National Research
Organizations.
CECAM-IE endorsed by the IUA - to date most activities have been in/organised
with UCD, TCD, QUB, and UCC-Tyndall, ICHEC & DIAS.

2. WHAT DOES CECAM-IRL DO
Pioneering workshops responsive to local needs and interests - 20 meetings to
date bringing some 700 of the leading international scientists to disseminate
their work and many more junior researchers.
Advanced tutorials aimed at graduate students & post-doctoral researchers
Research Topics - both applications and method development.
Collaborate with experimentalists, applied scientists and industry.

4. Our Goals On The Island
Increase the impact of Irish based researchers in simulation in terms of peer
review publications and research collaborations, funding and interaction with
Industry
Enhance the training of graduate students & junior postdocs specialised in
particle based simulation, as-well as the transfer of some of these skills to
experimentalists
Provide guidance & advise to experimentalists who wish to simulate but don't
know how to start/unsure about their simulations to date

5. Our Goals In Specific Institutions
IN DIAS - Mesoscale simulations in astrophysics.
IN ICHEC - Provide world class super computer services, graduate training, large
scale computing including the use of hybrid architectures, and algorithm
development.
IN QUB - Development of new simulation methods and applications of real-time
dynamics of classical and quantum systems including: electron transport in
nanostructures; irradiation of materials and biological matter; ultra-fast laser-matter
interactions; and integrated approaches to the rationally design of processes and
functional materials.
IN TCD - Simulation and Development of magnetic carbon nanostructures, nanoscale devices, novel materials, doped metal oxides, spintronics, software
development for electron transport, Many-body simulation software development
& application

6. IN TYNDALL-UCC - Processing and growth of thin films and the discovery of
new materials, transport in semiconductor alloys, ultrafast optical and x-ray
excitation and probing of materials, Design of photonic materials and devices
for new capabilities and applications.
IN UCD - Provide a cuting edge to colleagues close to industry e.g. Food &
and Bio-Pharma through molecular & mesoscale simulation and rare-event
methods. Build strong research connections with Data-Analytics united as we
are by our passion for statistics, data and computation.
